The inside is warm and cozy with the stone fireplace and wood walls. The home sits on 12 acres and is very private. Lots of space with 2 living areas, one on each level for kids and adults, each featuring its own flat panel TV. Enjoy hiking, sledding and sitting by the outdoor fire pit by the pond. House also features a game room which includes a pool table and ping pong table. Everybody liked the house. We found the layout excellent for the different groups in our family, with common spaces large enough for everyone to be together and secluded spaces for occasional needed quiet. The game room was good (even if the pool table and ping pong tables were beat up). Several enjoyed the hot tub. Others enjoyed exploring the surrounding mountains. Inconveniences were 1) internet was not strong at all and most had trouble connecting. 2)None of the TV remotes worked. We could connect to the Dish, but could not stream. With the weak internet, we probably could not have streamed anyway. 3)The oven would not heat above 350 degrees. It took an extra hour to bake our Thanksgiving casseroles. 4)The entry lock battery was almost dead when we arrived and we almost didn't get in. House is beautiful, and very well stocked for linens and plates. The house instructions are a little lacking and Wi-Fi had no internet most of the time which became a big issue when the slight smell of gas we had been noticing all weekend got stronger. The pilot light in the unoccupied basement heater went out and when we tried to go to bed around 11pm the smell was overpowering. With no phone number to contact the owner and no internet we had to rely on spotty cell service to get a message out on the VRBO app. The owner texted back, asking us to light the pilot with the strong smell of gas. We declined (as there were no clear instructions and the unit shut-off didn't turn easily) and called the Todd Volunteer Fire Department. The FD was fantastic and agreed with our decision, found the main shut-off outside, and turned the gas off at each appliance in the house. We were told to stay up and leave all doors open until around 1am and then to sleep with the windows and sliding glass doors open as well just in case. Gas company should be checking all appliances and hopefully the beautiful home will be less of a headache (literally) for your group. ##### Aimee D. This home is huge, we never felt on top of each other and we had a lot of people from toddlers, preteens, teens and adults. Beds were comfortable, place was clean, the location was perfect for a hideout but also close enough to town if needed. We saw deer, it snowed three times, we felt safe and comfortable and the views were spectacular. The only downside was the oven; especially for thanksgiving week. It doesn’t seem to get hot enough and things take much longer than you’d expect. Thankfully we packed slow cookers and air fryers as well - and deep fried our turkey outside :-) You can’t go wrong booking a stay here! ##### Barbara W. Close to Broone, NC, and river tubing that my family did. Home wasn’t the cleanest, and a musty smell. I did leave a tip for the housekeeper. Basement bedroom was nice, but had slugs. I thought the oven would be fix from past reviews. It still works, but on the sluggish side. We loved the neighbor dog paid us a visit. A very nice and friendly dog. Wood pit was great! Landscaping beautiful, and kids having a good time playing pool and ping pong. ##### Jane L. Really enjoyed the peaceful location. The house had everything we needed and was comfortable for everyone (15 people). They just put in a brand new stove and the grill worked great! We truly enjoyed this tucked away cabin for our weekend getaway. Would have enjoyed more had there been more AC throughout the very large home. Luckily the evenings were cool enough to open windows. All in all it was the right amount of space to enjoy and kid free weekend amd would have worked just a well if we brought the kids. Pleanty of space! ##### Mark D. This house was perfectly designed for our annual family vacation. The two game rooms were perfect for our group. Rockers on the porch and chairs by the pond allowed us to enjoy the cool mountain weather in a private setting. Located between Boone and West Jefferson, this location was quite desirable. We were dismayed to discover that the oven did not work properly. It took 40+ minutes to preheat to 375 degrees (which we later discovered was really only 295 degrees) and took more than twice the usual time to cook the meal. We contacted the owner who gave us a “work around” process to try but, basically, the oven was unreliable. (We were sympathetic to his problem of finding a reliable repair person in the area, but that information did not put dinner on the table.). Our “chief cook” was quite frustrated throughout the week. Had we known the oven was an issue, she would have altered her menu plans. She expected that the house would have a workable oven. (There is a toaster oven in the kitchen, but baking biscuits 5 at a time is not an efficient way to get breakfast for 13 on the table.) We would stay here again if we were assured that the oven was operating properly. For those considering renting this property, we encourage you to consider menu choices that can be prepared on the grill, on the stovetop, in the microwave, in a small toaster oven, or do not require cooking. Hopefully this issue will be resolved by next year so that we can enjoy this lovely home again. ##### Larry S. Séjour de 7 nuits en juin 2023 ### 10/10 – Excellent #### Jon K. 1 mai 2023 Points forts : Propreté #### Great private retreat in the High Country We stayed here with four families (7 adults & 8 kids all 12 and under) and had a fantastic long weekend. The mountainside and landscape were exceptionally pristine and well cared for; beautiful streams and views from the large decks. We enjoyed the hot tub quite a bit and just sitting outside basking in the mountain air. It really was a great setup for a large group. ##### Jon K. Watching the sun rise over the mountains from the hot tub is a must. There were plenty of linens towels blankets and towels. The oven did not work very well but the toaster oven was a good back up. The gas grill did not work at all. Overall the house was clean. I don’t even know where to start. The pictures do NOT do this cabin justice. This place is magical! We had 6 adults and 8 children. The property was perfect for all of us. The yard was great for our Easter egg hunt, plenty of room for the kiddos and adults to explore. Tommy the person who delivers wood is also a great source of information. He has lived in Todd for 63 years. The “neighbors” also have a dog named Boone who would come visit occasionally. We all loved that. Cascade Lane is situated in the middle of pretty much everything. Boone and West Jefferson are only a short 27 minute drive away. I would stay here 1000 more times!! ##### Kaylee C.
