What to do in Jiangsu

The Temple of Confucius was built to honor and worship the legendary ancient Chinese thinker and philosopher. It is also where imperial scholars were locked in individual cells for days on end, sitting their important exams.

Jinji Lake is among the largest inland city lakes in China. The lake’s western and northern shores offer a concentration of entertainment and shopping complexes. Head to the eastern and southern shores to relax in tranquil green spaces.

The Humble Administrator's Garden is the largest garden in Suzhou and one of the city’s most famous attractions. Encompassing 13 acres (5 hectares), the garden is dotted with lovely bamboo groves, pavilions, lotus ponds and bridges. Be sure to visit its small museum, which is dedicated to the aesthetics of Chinese gardens.

The lake in the center of the huge Xuan Wu Lake Park is crisscrossed with bridges and dotted with islands, which you can spend hours exploring. Walk among the cherry blossoms and weeping willows of the gardens and enjoy the architecture of pagodas and pavilions.

The Suzhou Museum houses an exquisite collection of ceramics, wood carvings, jade, textiles, paintings and calligraphy. The modern building was designed as a contemporary reimagining of a traditional courtyard and garden. Admire the museum’s unique design and fine exhibits, which beautifully reflect the history and culture of Suzhou and the surrounding region.

Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Mausoleum is the final resting place of the founder of the Republic of China. The monument sits at the foot of one of Mount Zijn's peaks and is reached by climbing more than 300 stairs.
