Shepardson Brookside: VAST+AT Hike | A/C | Brook
Welcome to this grand log cabin in Stratton! Located at the end of a quiet dead-end road (an old logging trail!), this home feels majestic. You can hear the babbling brook from the sunroom, hop on the VAST snowmobile trails, or hike straight to the Stratton Fire Tower via the Appalachian Trail right from the backyard!
With cathedral ceilings, a Viking range for the chefs, and Starlink WiFi, it’s the perfect basecamp for adventure.
☀ Stratton Mountain Resort: 9 min
☀ Mount Snow: 13 min
☀ Manchester (Shopping/Dining): 26 min
☀ Grout Pond: 8 min
THE SPACE - HIGHLIGHTS
☀ Hike to Stratton Fire Tower / AT / Long Trail directly from the yard (No roads!)
☀ Direct VAST snowmobile trail access
☀ Chef`s Kitchen with Viking Gas Range
☀ Babbling brook running behind the house
☀ Chiminea on the back patio
☀ Starlink High-Speed Internet
☀ Central A/C (rare luxury for the area)
THE VIBE
This place has that classic `Grand Lodge` feel. The main living room features wood everywhere, leather couches, a gas fireplace in a massive stone chimney built with stones from the property, and tons of natural light pouring in. I love the history of this spot. Shepardson Road was an old logging trail, and if you look at the end of the road, you can still see where it disappears into the undergrowth. It feels adventurous and secluded.
KITCHEN & DINING
The kitchen is a dream for cooking groups, featuring a professional Viking Gas Range. There is also both Drip and Keurig coffee makers. There is no shortage of places to eat here:
• Main Dining Table: Seats 8
• Breakfast Bar: Seats 4
• Sunroom Tables: Seats 6 (This is my favorite spot with windows all around. It gets chilly in winter though! But in summer, you might even hear the babbling brook just 20 feet away)
BEDROOMS & SLEEPING (Sleeps 12)
There are 3 bedrooms plus a loft sleeping area. The upstairs suite is practically its own apartment!
• Bedroom 1 (Main Floor): King bed
• Bedroom 2 (Main Floor): Two twin beds.
• Bedroom 3 (Upstairs suite): A massive room with a king bed, two twin beds, comfortable lounge chairs, and its own kitchenette/coffee station.
• Loft Area (Upstairs): Overlooking the living room, featuring 2 full futons.
BATHROOMS (4 Total)
• Entry Bath: Tub/shower combo (off the mudroom).
• Main Hall Bath: Tub/shower combo with double sinks.
• Upstairs Bath: Shower only (in the suite).
• Basement Bath: Features a vintage clawfoot tub with shower. (Note: This is the only space accessible to guests in the basement).
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
The cabin has a big front porch for hanging out, but the back patio is where the magic happens. There’s a chiminea set up there so you can have a fire while listening to the brook.
The real perk here is the access. You are right next to the VAST snowmobile trails connecting all the way to Canada, and you can hike the Appalachian Trail / Long Trail all the way to the Stratton Fire Tower without ever crossing a single street!
REVIEWS
I just started renting out the place, but this is not my first rodeo. Here are what some past guests at another property had to say:
“Great communication from before our trip to after, very responsive in general.“ - Haley
“Tommy was a great host and very responsive.” - Veronika
“Tommy has gone above and beyond in his offering, service, and communication.” - Greg
