Escape the crowds to enjoy winter and summer sports, scenic chairlift rides, a European-style village and gourmet dining in this resort at Utah’s Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Solitude Mountain Resort is frequently praised as one of Utah’s hidden gems. Visit this mountain resort to enjoy year-round adventure sports, magnificent scenery, a pedestrian-only village and varied culinary experiences. Located on the slopes of Big Cottonwood Canyon, Solitude Mountain is just a short drive from Salt Lake City, yet its welcoming charm makes you feel worlds away.

Hop on your skis or snowboard and prepare to explore 66 runs spread over a skiable area of 1,200 acres (480 hectares). Find trails suitable for all abilities, including beginner slopes and the challenging terrain of Honeycomb Canyon. If it’s your first time on the snow, sign up for lessons with a qualified instructor. Learn the techniques for alpine skiing, snowboarding, telemark skiing and cross-country skiing.

At the Nordic Center, enjoy Nordic skiing on 12 miles (20 kilometers) of trails that meander through picturesque forests. Take advantage of 6 miles (10 kilometers) of snowshoeing trails too.

After the snow melts, the forests, mountains and valleys change to vivid shades of green. Relax on a scenic chairlift ride and admire views of the Wasatch Mountains. Reconnect with nature as you follow hiking trails or rent a bike for an adventurous journey along single-track and tree-lined routes. Join free guided hikes in July to discover an array of colorful wildflowers.

Go fishing for rainbow trout at Lake Solitude and brook trout along the shores of Big Cottonwood Creek. Play a round of disc golf on the 18-hole mountainside course.

Solitude Mountain Resort’s Europe-inspired village is the place to eat, drink, shop and sleep. Stay overnight at ski-in, ski-out hotels and lodges. Skate on the winter ice rink and pamper yourself at the resort spa. Experience a sensory adventure with a five-course menu in a candlelit Mongolian yurt, which opens during winter.

Get to Solitude Mountain by flying to Salt Lake City International Airport and then renting a car. Parking is available at the hotels, lodges and entrance to the village.

Enjoy Solitude’s winter season from late November through mid April and return for the summer season from mid-June through early-September.
