"Very good and family friendly experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, overall an excellent stay. The only complaint would be that dinner at 2 of the 4 restaurants felt a little like a conveyor belt where the priority seemed to be getting us fed and out as quickly as possible rather than having us enjoy the dining experience. With that said the experience at the other 2 restaurants was excellent."

Nautilux Rethymno by Mage Hotels

8/10 Good

"Over all hotel is nice , Everyone working here was nice and kind . Anyhow for 5 star hotel shower enclosure is only 2 stars…. It is no door from living area to the bathroom,so it is crazy cold when you get out from the shower, and enclosure itself is ridiculously uncomfortable, Other thing -guests are allowed to smoke in a balcony,no separation between smoking and nonsmoking rooms,so you will smell disgusting cigarette smoke all day long… Also -5 star hotel does not have heated pool ,so October 12 th pool temperature was 15 degrees Celsius-that is absolutely ridiculous…please invest some money for your pool heating,so guests, who paid for 5 star hotel can enjoy it …"

Dyo Suites

10/10 Excellent

"The room was enormous! Cool Modernist design, nice touches like a coplementary fruit bowl. Discounts for eating in the restaurant. We didn’t end up trying the spa services, but they were extensive and either free or reasonably priced. My only complaint is that our room was right at street level and our patio visible (albeit just barely so) over the shoulder-high wall separating us from the street, which got noisy during the day. I suggest requesting a second floor room!"

Grecotel Marine Palace & Aqua Park

10/10 Excellent

"We had an amazing time everything from the transfers to and from the airport to the hotel, to the hotel itself just couldn’t fault anything. The staff couldn’t do enough for you and they were so friendly. This was the first time going all inclusive we couldn’t have chosen a better place the food was so nice and so much choice. The hotel was very clean and tidy the grounds were well maintained. We will be staying here again in the future."

Aquila Rithymna Beach

8/10 Good

"BEAUTIFUL MAINTAINED GROUNDS. FRIENDLY HELPFUL STAFF. WE HAD A PARTIAL SEA VIEW BUNGALOW - THE VIEW WAS GOOD & BUNGALOWS ARE LOCATED IN A QUITE PART OF THE RESORT. LOVED OUR BALCONY ( RM 30). MAIN CRITICISM OF THE ROOM IS THE OVER BATH SHOWER. WHOEVER PLANNED PUTTING THE TAPS IN THE CENTRE OF THE BATH AS WELL AS THE WIRE RACK & SOAP DISPENSERS HAS NEVER TRIED TO STAND TAKING A SHOWER IN THE BATH WHILST FIGHTING THE PLASTIC SHOWER SHEET - IT IS DANGEROUS . I CANNOT IMAGINE HOW HEAVIER / LARGER PEOPLE MANAGE IT!!. RECEPTION - VERY RESPONSIVE TO ANY REQUESTS IE COFFEE NOT TOPPED UP WAS QUICKLY RESOLVED. RESORT AMENITIES: POOLS BEAUTIFUL & WELL MAINTAINED. AQUA PARK GOOD FUN. BARS/RESTAURANTS: MAIN BUFFET BREAKFAST - EXCELLENT FOOD CHOICES BUT VERY BUSY. BETTER OPTION HAVE BREAKFAST IN PERGOLA SIDE - TABLES WIDER SPACED - FEELS LESS HECTIC. LOVED THE GREEK RESTAURANT / FOOD & STAFF. AL A CARTE RESTAURANT LOVELY. BEACH BAR - LOVELY DRINKS BUT UNDER STAFFED SO SERVICE CAN BE VERY VERY SLOW!!! SERVICE AT MAIN BAR POOR WHEN ON LOWER LEVEL. FAILED TO BE SERVED OUR DRINKS ON 3 OCCASIONS WHEN ORDERED DOWNSTAIRS. RESORT IS VERY CHILD FRIENDLY. WOULD I GO BACK - PERSONALLY THINK THE AI PACKAGE IS OVERPRICED AND THE ROOMS ARE NOT REALLY 5*. IN SPITE OF THIS WE REALLY ENJOYED OUR STAY"

Grecotel Plaza Beach House

10/10 Excellent

"We booked a room at the last minute. There will a little mix up upon arrival but the hotel upgraded us and bought us dinner to compensate us. Honestly, there was no need. The hotel was fabulous and the staff could not have been friendlier. The beach area was perfect and exactly what we wanted during our time in Greece. Rethymno is a lovely town and not nearly as busy as Chania, which made a huge difference. We would definitely go back to this hotel."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Sivritos?

The best area to stay in Sivritos is within the village itself or the immediate surrounding countryside, particularly for those seeking a tranquil and authentic Cretan experience.

Sivritos village is a small, traditional settlement located in the Amari Valley, offering a peaceful escape from busier coastal resorts. It's characterised by stone-built houses, narrow streets, and a central square where locals gather. The village is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, providing picturesque views and a sense of being truly in the heart of Crete.

Couples looking for a romantic and quiet retreat will find Sivritos ideal. The village offers a chance to disconnect and enjoy the slow pace of rural life, with opportunities for gentle walks through the countryside or simply relaxing with a book. You'll find charming guesthouses and villas, often with private pools, offering comfort and privacy.

For travellers interested in exploring the natural beauty and history of the region, staying in Sivritos provides an excellent base. The surrounding Amari Valley is dotted with Byzantine churches and traditional villages, great for day trips.

When is the best time to go to Sivritos?

The best time to go to Sivritos is during the shoulder seasons of late April to early June and September to October.

During these months, the weather is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the village and surrounding countryside, without the intense heat and larger crowds of mid-summer. You'll find that many local businesses are fully open, offering a complete experience of Cretan hospitality and cuisine. This period is particularly good for couples looking for a relaxed holiday, as the trails for hiking are more comfortable, and the beaches are less populated.

For families, late May and early June are excellent, as the sea temperatures begin to rise, making swimming enjoyable, and the school holidays haven't fully begun, meaning fewer crowds. The olive groves and vineyards around Sivritos are lush, providing beautiful scenery for leisurely walks or drives.
