The staff here could not have been friendlier or done more for us. Always on hand and asking if we needed anything. One small complaint would be the bed was too soft but seems to be normal for most hotels now to have soft mattress. Location was fabulous - 4 min walk to most places we wanted and only 10 to bus station. Would book here again.

The Staff was super friendly and very accommodating. The problem was that they did not have the facilities nor the infrastructure to work with. Firstly, we had trouble finding the entrance as it is behind the hotel in an alley way surrounded by trash cans and dead rodents. The picture in Expedia is extremely deceiving. The ocean front Split area has a disgusting sewage odor that my wife, daughter and I could barely put up with. The restaurants close around 5pm and sometimes earlier that the stated online times "if they choose to do so". The room itself was crooked. My wife and I actually propped pillows underneath ourselves as we felt as though we were going to roll out of bed. I know that sounds ridiculous and we have never encountered this before throughout visiting almost 100 countries but it is true about our room here.

Hello David,we did send you an e-mail with written location description how to find us.When you smell an unpleasant scent, which sometimes can happen during the south wind, you just keep the window closed.Comment about restaurants in the area have no place here.And not that it sound ridiculous but it is ridiculous that you ''though we were going roll out of bed'' and I'm sorry that I can not attach picture of the room floor and the bed with leveling instrument on it.Kind regards,

Not worth it
I give this place about a 2.5 star rating. I will start with the positive - the location is excellent and the staff were wonderful. I also liked the private parking space. However I could not get past several issues we experienced. The first was with the air conditioning. It was only in the upper 70s while we were there but yet the air conditioning struggled to keep the room cool. It ended up being sufficient, but never great and when we tried to turn it down more it would freeze and not really work at all. The second issue we had was we had to keep the bathroom door shut at all times to avoid the sewer smell that leaked from there at random times. It was never a constant smell, but it was unbearable when it did smell like that. The third issue was that the wifi would randomly not work. It got to the point where it was unusable for hours at a time with either an extremely poor speed or just drop entirely. Pay a little more and stay somewhere else in Old Town.

The location of the hotel is great if you want to right in the thick of it. It's also on the waterfront promenade so ideal for accessing the ferries and boat excursions by foot. Entrance is a bit shabby as it's at the back of the building but didn't really present an issue. It is a bit hard to find but if you follow the instructions provided you won't have an issue. Check in was friendly and efficient and we had help with our bags up the stairs from the street. We had a good sized room for three of us but the bathroom was the size of a postage stamp which would have been more frustrating if we were staying for more than the two nights. Our room was opposite reception which was convenient but a bit noisy at night when other guests returned. Surprisingly noise from the street wasn't an issue which was good. I wouldn't necessarily call this a "boutique" hotel, its fairly traditional but it is clean and tidy and very comfortable.

Great Location and Great People
This is a nice hotel in a great location. The people are fantastic and if you're here to be right in the middle of the party then this place is for you. That being said we would use a different hotel if you're flying out early the next morning as we were just because it is a little noisy.

This property was amazing and in a great location. We came off a cruise and a 5 minute walk were t the hotel. The entrance is a bit difficult to find, but the accommodations were amazing. The air conditioning was a plus, as it was extremely hot and humid outside. Great location because of shopping and dining just a few steps away.

Location Location. Right in the old town area, with our window looking out at the marina. Definitely took us a few minutes to find it as the entrance is "around back", kind of down an alley. But that was really our fault. The rooms were great. The location was great. And the staff were super helpful. Finding this was really one of the many unexpected surprises of this trip.

This is a very dated property and definitely could not be described as a boutique hotel. It felt like I had beamed back in time to the 1980s and was in a guesthouse. The location was good for both the old town and the sea front restaurants, bars and shops and whilst the external sound proofing was pretty good to block this noise (through the the extensive use of UPVC doors and windows) the internal sound proofing was not good and we could hear everything going on in other rooms - especially above us. There were two windows in the room and neither of them blocked the light well, so we were awake at 5.30am each morning when the sun came up which was annoying. We tried to put towels up but there was nothing to hang them off. Ultimately, this is not really a hotel and more of a B&B/guesthouse level. Looking back at the traveller photos on Trip Advisor (which I wish we’d done first) it appears it was a B&B until recently and they have ‘upgraded’ themselves to ‘Boutique Hotel’ and increased the prices without doing much else’s. Beware that the room photos you see are all of their premium rooms and not consistent of them all. We paid more to have a sea view which was a joke as you had to actually be standing looking through it to see the view as it wasn’t a huge window which you’d expect when selling a sea view! Ultimately this is a clean and functional place in a good location (though the entrance is difficult to find) but should be cheaper for what you get.

Excellent location, beautiful view! Well worth climbing four flights of stairs. Very unique, exudes Split old town vibe, with all the modern touches. No elevator, so four flights of stairs may be an issue for someone with mobility issues.

Such a treat staying in the heart of the old town . Hard to locate at night when I arrived . Would have like a reference point as google can only get you so far . Noise was completely shut out with windows . Worth the effort of getting bags up & down stairs being right in the heart of things for a short stay for a single person

Loved this hotel! Right in the center of everything. Staff are charming, rooms are clean (with great views), WiFi works great, tons of stuff to do nearby and you can walk everywhere in town. Special shout-out to Anna, who was so kind and helpful. Not a good fit if you can’t climb stairs.

The staff at the Hotel work over and above. I injured my arm severely on the airport shuttle. They were able to arrange for a Dr to attend not once but twice. They also assisted in arranging our transport with Minibud (with whom I was having a terrible Time arranging our transport). The breakfast buffet is excellent and the serving staff is very friendly, attentive and professional. I would stay here again.

The building was awesome. The Hotel Kastel was a very unique hotel with a very friendly staff. The hotel was located in the center of everything where all activities were taking place. The hotel was only about 2 blocks from the Cathedral. The rooms were a little small, but we really didn't spend much time in the room any way.
