no one to check us in on arrival .found a cleaner who found the owner who checked us in .we asked if we could have a drink as we had been travelling a long way and he said no as he runs it on his own so told us to walk to town and find a coffee shop !!! had a meal that night which was cooked by owner.but bar was only open for a short time.owner has a very large dog an Akita which was allowed to poo in outside seating area .this was not cleaned up once in the 3 days we were there. the place is cetainly run down i think the owner has given up as there was no staff at all.no cleaning in bedroom or clean towels the whole time we were there\ only one tiny bulb in ceiling in bathroom other 6 six not working much the same in bedroom and correctly named The Dusthole because thats what it was.the place needs a complete refit and is nothing like the website says.it was our worst nightmare and would never stay there again
We had the best stay here. Very personalized service and great food cooked to order. Huge bathtub and super comfy beds. If you are ghost hunters you should definitely come to this 17th century guest house where we heard a disembodied voice greet us hello and then ‘farewell’ when leaving!! Altogether a wonderful experience. Lots of character and a super sweet dog. The building is very old and hence the walls and floors are crooked which adds to the character and highlights just how old and unique the property is. Highly recommended!
Amazing old building full of character and great decor. Very clean throughout. The owner-chef, Tony, is a great guy and very modest i discovered. Having chatted a fair bit, i only discovered from a newspaper clipping in the corner of the restaurant that Marco Pieirre White once popped in for a coffee, ended staying for 2 hours chatting with Tony about the restaurant and hotel sectors and then returned the following day to enjoy Tony's Sunday lunch. I was going write how good Tony's food is, but i guess that tells you all you need to know. I look forward to my next trip to the Dusthole. Thanks again
A unique hotel that surprised! Loved the old parts of the pub, the room was clean, very comfortable and breakfasr was fab. Would highly recommend staying here if are in Shepton Mallett.
This property is not suitably for people who don’t like snarling, barking, very large aggressive, very large, unrestrained dogs.

Old Coaching inn with charm.
A warm welcome awaits you at the DustHole in Shepton Mallet as long as you don't get eaten by their dog whilst trying to get in after dark that is.
Good food, but bedrooms small and in need of updating.
At least the bed linen was clean and the bathroom passable but it's obviously called the Dusthole for a reason! Only stayed one night in the end.
Previous negative reviews sum it up perfectly - it needs closing down and complete refurbishment with new management. Christmas decorations around the bar in September......seriously??? Nothing like the photos.
Disappointing especially considering the price, even more though we didn’t feel welcome at all, such a shame as it’s a lovely interesting old building full of history which needs respect and a lot of maintenance which didn’t appear to be happening, felt the owner has fallen out of love with the business and it was obvious he wants to leave, didn’t look like anything had been touched or cleaned for a long time, 2016 tourist info leaflets, nothing up to date to promote area, no bulbs in lampshades, old toiletries, out of date food in the breakfast area, home cooked food advertised on bar/breakfast menu, what we had did not look or taste like it, a better meal had at a Wetherspoons and half the price! I would not normally leave a review but felt a need to share. Felt in need of a nice break following a house move, unfortunately a bad choice made on this occasion.
Exquisite food, exceptional breakfast of great quality locally sourced produce. Room clean and well kept, hallways a little tired . Owner somewhat indifferent...great shame.
Tucked away but handy for local shops and a stones throw from Ex HM Prison for tours.
V unusual , quirky in a good way . Good service , hot home cooking, friendly staff. Lots of character

It’s a very old property and the plumbing is very old and noisy. Unfortunately some people are not so caring for others and flush the toilet in the middle of the night. The breakfast was very good. It’s not an ideal place for disabled persons. Uneven and a little difficult to walk as no level floors.
