With seafront apex windows, 3 separate sleeping pavilions surround the private, wind protected internal courtyard. Indoor/outdoor flow is maintained via garage-style glass doors. The kitchen is understated and open with gas cooking, while a combustion fireplace adds nostalgia. The house strikes a balance with a connection to its landscape. It’s forever absorbing a changing view, interacting with nature and seasonality. Constructed to age gracefully from self-weathering materials, it could have been built yesterday. From simple beginnings, the design inspiration comes partly from Balinese homes that have separate wings for sleeping, entertaining, and bathrooms. A unique position means the house is high enough to avoid distractions from the road. In the best corner of the beach, it’s protected from the wind and those mesmerising storms. With no overlooking neighbours, the house only reveals itself once you walk up the stairs for that feeling of arrival. And that’s how you can leave the world behind for a few days. At the far end of the beach, the house is on the cusp of the Sugarloaf Point lighthouse walk (a must, every time). Fishing and diving enthusiasts know the area well. For waves you have the point for friendly breakers, plus Lighthouse, Treachery or Yagon offering even more. AMENITIES Fishcakes is self contained, is full of sustainable features, and sleeps up to 6 guests. Private, comfortable and spacious, you’re surrounded by the greenery of the landscaped gardens and the national park. Cooking amenities consist of a gas cook top, outdoor Weber BBQ & microwave. Please note, there is no oven at the property. There is a freezer available downstairs for your use. The 3 bedrooms wrap around the private courtyard. A generous master loft has a queen bed, hanging space, desk, and plenty of room for a portable cot if needed. Another 2 private bedrooms have comfortable double beds, with quality linen provided throughout. Perched high on a sand dune you can stroll down to Boat Beach, or take a 5-minute walk to Lighthouse Beach. In true rural style, you’ll see a range of wildlife through the different seasons. Guests please note: Here at Fishcakes, we are connected to TANK WATER ONLY. If our tanks are depleted, there is no back up supply. The showers have a hose, you need to hold with your hand, so showing is difficult. With that, one of the showers only produced cold water so for 6 people we were a little confined. I saw many comments years ago about this very issue, shame they haven’t installed shower heads as that’s a cheap fix. 2\. The property is near a bush and we did see mice and many creatures running through the kitchen even though we ensured all areas were closed. 3\. There are no screens in the main house so you can’t let a breeze through due to mosquitos. It was very hot 4\. You can’t actually secure the property. The front gate doesn’t lock so anyone can walk in. We didn’t feel super safe 5\. We had young children and the property isn’t really suitable for them due to the rooms being seperate from the house. 6\. One of the three rooms didn’t have a mosquito net - we battled them most nights. 7\. Freezer is under the house so any ice we had to keep going underneath which was odd. 8\. Tv was small compared to space, wasn’t comfortable for six people to watch a movie. The house has the most beautiful views which were breathtaking and nice to come home to. This type of property would definitely could suit some groups who don’t mind basic living. They provided lovely soaps, a coffee machine and all stand up boards and umbrellas which were very useful. I think for the price though, we did expect a bit more :) ##### Isabella G. The design is perfect for families with superb connection to the outdoors. The view is worth sitting back and soaking in for days on end with nature all around. The house is well appointed with everything we needed and Property Manager Julie went to great lengths to ensure our stay was enjoyable with great local information and assistance. It's a beautiful house with a lot of unusual and memorable features. Great layout for relaxing, reading, listening to music and occasional trips to the coffee caravan, ocean, bushland and sand dunes. A well laid out and well equipped kitchen made cooking meals a pleasure. The living area was great for socialising with amazing views. The courtyard is situated in the middle of the house and is perfect to hang out if there is an on shore wind.
