" I stayed for 10 nights as a female solo traveler and had a great time. I felt very safe, the property was well maintained, the staff were incredibly kind, and my room was cleaned daily. They also provided free water refills every day, so I never had to go out and buy any. They have a restaurant attached to the hotel with a really good, well-balanced food selection that is reasonably priced and open from 7:30–10pm, which is very convenient. I ended up eating there for almost every meal. The pool was lovely — not too cold, just the perfect temperature. The soaking tub in the bathroom was an absolute delight; I found myself using it often! I also loved having a vanity in the bathroom to get ready at — it made me feel like a princess. Would highly recommend this place to other female solo travelers! "

"Kupu Kupu Barong in Ubud, Bali is located in a beautiful area with very good scenery. Being surrounded by the jungle gives the resort a peaceful and natural atmosphere, and the views are truly relaxing and memorable. The hotel staff were very nice, friendly, and helpful throughout the stay. They were welcoming and did their best to make the experience comfortable. However, the property itself feels quite outdated and old. The wooden flooring creaks, some areas seem to be starting to rot, and even some stair posts are visibly deteriorating, which may become a safety concern soon. Because the resort is deep in the jungle where it rains often, they are constantly battling moisture, algae, crawling creatures, and the natural effects of the environment. In my opinion, the property really needs renovation and updating. While staying in the jungle means you are naturally living with nature and the elements, and some travelers may love that experience, for the price, there are newer and more contemporary places to stay elsewhere in Bali that may offer better overall value. Personally, I would likely not return, but if being fully immersed in the jungle environment is your preference, this may still be a good fit for you."

"I absolutely loved staying here!! I also got an unexpected surprise from the staff at check in when they found out it was my birthday the day before and they all sang happy birthday to me and gave me a slice of cake, so thoughtful. The place is amazing, the views are perfect, exactly like what is shown. I stayed on river view and it’s a must when staying here. Sri and Desak were so sweet, warm and welcoming!! The whole staff is the absolute best! It’s also close to the Ubud market center and they offer shuttle services. When I come back to Ubud, which I hope is again in the near future, I will definitely be staying here. I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else! Thank you, Black Penny for an amazing stay and experience ❤️"

" The villa does not look like the pictures at all. It feels very old and has a noticeable smell. Even the bedsheets seem worn and not well-maintained. The pool light wasn’t working, which made it unusable at night. There were also a lot of ants and flies throughout the property. The food was horrible and not up to standard. Overall, the condition, cleanliness, and services were far below expectations."
