Firstly the room felt tired and worn out. Bedclothes smelt musty and unwashed. The plug in the bath didn't work and had to operated with a spoon. The taps wobbled. A little TLC would go a long way. The room tea and coffee were enough for one cup each. The real kicker though was the breakfast service. Utterly chaotic, with staff milling around and no sense of control, each instruction or assistance came from other exasperated hotel guests. The hot breakfast items were taken away half filled are people were trying to get to them. The coffee machine was broken with a queue of 20 people while a number of staff hid behind the bar. I didn't bother going on my 2nd day. More importantly. The staff do not make you feel welcome at all. They avoid eye contact and there is no sense of management presence at all. Maybe this was an Easter weekend issue. But a great hotel is the people who work there. The furniture was very traditional but you’d expect that at this type of property. The room had a variety of teas and coffees . The home made biscuits were a great addition too . Staff were amazing and made the stay more special due to their attentiveness. All food was exceptional as was the service. The only negative thing I can think of is that there isn’t much to do within walking distance. The grounds were lovely but only took 10 minutes to walk around."
