Wedding? We’ve hosted several weddings at La Grande Maison. Additionally, the Muir Beach Overlook, with its sweeping ocean views, is just a few steps across the street and is a perfect place for a wedding. Finally, the Pelican Inn hosts many weddings, as does Slide Ranch, both of which are within a 5-10 minute drive from the house. Hiking If you like hiking, the Owl Trail starts literally across the street from the house and runs north from the Muir Beach Overlook through dense chaparral with rangy views of the coast down to Slide Ranch. No need to drive to get to a wonderful hike. There are also a number of additional hiking trails in the Muir Beach area. Muir Beach The beach is a 5 minute drive down the hill, but if you’re feeling like a challenge it’s about a 25 minute walk down the hill. Going down is the easy part, while coming back entails a pretty good climb. The Decks The extensive decks on the back and side of the house provide outstanding views of Mt. Tamalpais and surrounding hills and valley. You’ll find a playhouse to keep the kids entertained, and enough places to sit to be able to enjoy great conversation and mesmerizing views. A four burner gas grill is ready for grilling up some great meals. Climate Living on the Pacific Coast means that we have a moderate climate for most of the year. There are usually only a handful of days during the year when it’s hot enough that air conditioning would be useful. As such, we don’t have air conditioning nor do the majority of homes in Muir Beach. Dinner Parties When we say no parties or events we mean that we don't want people renting the house solely for the purpose of throwing a big party. However, small get togethers such as inviting friends over for a dinner party or a small engagement party are perfectly fine. Number of Guests We limit the number of adult guests to 8, but allow up to 2 infants or children under the age of six. Living on a mountain. It was exactly what we were wanting for our daughter's wedding weekend at Pelican Inn. Enjoyed the WARM cozy beds with their electric blankets, and well stocked kitchen. We also utilized the beautiful deck for morning workouts. The deck overlooks some beautiful hills that you can see the fog roll through in the mornings. It was perfect for 7 people to chat and cook and eat together, while simultaneously offering rooms far enough away from each other to give the occupants privacy if needed.Aside from the view, the kitchen and decor are probably the next best things. The kitchen is stocked with every utensil, pot, pan, bowl, etc. that you would think to need, and the fridge and freezer were spacious. The fridge had a water dispenser and ice maker as well. As for the decor, this was not a cookie cutter VRBO but a cozy home filled with all sorts of unique art, Beatles paraphernalia, Godzilla statues and more. It’s got a lot personality.Greg was super responsive during our stay and there were detailed notes throughout about little quirks of the house to help you familiarize yourself with the space. The home was clean, the beds super comfy, and, though cell signal was difficult to get, the WiFi worked wonderfully. The stairs down to the home from the street were navigable for us 30-somethings with bad knees. There’s also a handrail if you’re worried about it. We were able to carry ice chests and luggage down it with only a minimal amount of huffing and puffing.Overall, we would highly recommend and are so happy we chose this home for our elopement! Highlights for us were: the deck, the well-equipped kitchen, the house layout with bedrooms nicely spaced for privacy, the Beatles paraphernalia, and especially the location. The house is tucked away in a peaceful, scenic spot with access to amazing hiking trails right out the door. We loved being so close to Muir Woods National Monument, which made exploring the redwoods incredibly convenient. A perfect getaway for nature lovers looking to relax and reconnect. If I was the owner, I would have been clearer in the description about the access (17 steep stairs from the sidewalk level down to the front door), just because some members of my party were older, but when I asked the owner for details he was very responsive. The view out the floor to ceiling windows in the living room is otherworldly. Breathtaking view of the mountains to the north. We had a wonderful time at this beautiful Muir Beach home. It was a 70th birthday party and family reunion. The house was big enough so we were able to spread out but also enjoy the amenities (eg the big kitchen, dining room and living room). It’s an easy walk up to the Muir Beach overlook and nearby hiking at Muir Beach. There were three big bedrooms and a smaller bedroom with a twin and loft bed which would have been perfect for a kid or teen. As the youngest older adults, we made it work and it was actually pretty cozy. The views of the hills and local birds in the bird feeder were stunning. Would definitely recommend! ##### Caroline S. It was perfect for our family of six adults. We grilled burgers & dogs, ate breakfast at the house every day. Kitchen is beautiful and totally stocked. We visited Muir Woods, Stinson Beach, hiked the Owl Trail which is just steps from the house. The views from Owl Trail & Muir Beach Overlook are amazing.
