Enjoy sunbathing, swimming and fun-filled watersports at this peaceful arched bay.
Unwind on the sand with a cold beer or swim in the turquoise water that meets the shoreline of Sapphire Beach. Snorkel with bright, tropical fish and skim over the waves on a windsurfing board.
Amble along this golden beach and choose a spot in front of the sea. Spread out a towel and lie out in the sun or relax in the shade of lush sea grape trees that line the bay. On a clear day, sunbathers should be able to see the neighboring island of St. John in the distance.
Zone out from the world and listen to some music. If you get hungry, the nearby resort restaurant offers lunch and drinks. Stroll along to the western side of the bay. Be on alert for iguanas hanging about on the shrubs and rocks.
Snorkeling is another favorite pastime among beachgoers here and a host of marine life populate the warm ocean waters. Rent snorkeling gear from the center on the beach or arrange to join a private snorkeling excursion; most pre-arranged tours include pick-up from your accommodation or the cruise ship port. Spot schools of colorful fish below the surface or explore the reef and rocky outcrop along the marina. Look for snappers and wrasses as well as anemones and hermit crabs.
If you’d rather stay dry, simply watch windsurfers cruising effortlessly over the waves from shore. Those who are feeling really adventurous can consider taking a Jet Ski out or even chartering a boat. These activities can be arranged at the marina.
Sapphire Beach is located on the eastern side of St. Thomas, a 20-minute drive from Charlotte Amalie. The Sapphire Beach Condominium Resort is less than 5 minutes away on foot. Arrange taxi transport in advance to bring you to and from the beach.
