About this property

Pool + Hot Tub | Cedar Sauna | Hammocks + Trails | Wooded Hills | Fable Sonoma

  • Fable Sonoma sits on nearly ten wooded acres in the hills of Santa Rosa's Rincon Valley, tucked back far enough that the trees take over the view. The property was built as a retreat center, so it has places to meet, places to be alone, and private trails that tie them together. It suits a team offsite, a wellness retreat, or a workshop, and it works just as well for family or friends who want time together and space to spread out.

The main house was designed by architect Jacob Lehrer in the 1970s and has since been reworked with a modern, nature-forward feel. Forest-facing windows and a stone fireplace anchor the open great room. A large dining table and a well-equipped kitchen make shared meals easy, and the conversation tends to keep going long after the plates are cleared.

There's plenty to gather around indoors. A whole-house Sonos system with premium Spotify, a PA and karaoke setup with wireless microphones, color-changing lights, and a 65-inch digital art display let the great room shift from a morning workshop to a dinner party at night. A stack of board games covers the quieter evenings.

Five bedrooms and three full bathrooms sleep up to ten. The primary has a king bed and an ensuite bath with a shower and a soaking tub. Two more bedrooms have kings, one has a queen, and the fifth pairs a double with a twin. A finished lower level gives the group extra room to break out, regroup, or unwind.

Outside, the owner's trails wind through meadows and past swings and hillside viewpoints. Farther out, the trail reaches camping hammocks and a glamping-style tent, a quiet spot for meditation, journaling, or an hour on your own. Closer in, a ceremony and meeting tent with custom lighting stands in for a conference room, and outdoor seating tucked into the trees extends the gathering space.

Between sessions, the pool, hot tub, and cedar sauna are there for a reset. Pool heating is available for $100 per day and needs to be requested at least 48 hours before arrival.

For all its quiet, the property is close to town. Downtown Santa Rosa and Railroad Square are about fifteen minutes away, and the trails of Trione-Annadel State Park are a short drive south. Highway 12 leads into Sonoma Valley through Kenwood, Calistoga is over the hill to the east, and Healdsburg's plaza is an easy afternoon trip north through wine country.

A few practical notes. The home has multiple levels and stairs, and there is no safety gate around the pool. The hammock and tent area is about half a mile out on an uneven trail with elevation changes, and it can get muddy after rain, so sturdy shoes are a good idea. Pets are not allowed, and there's parking for up to five cars.

Known for its vineyards, local cuisine, and nature parks, Sonoma County (45 minutes from San Francisco) offers a wide array of activities for those looking to retreat from city life. Touring local wineries, dining at farm-to-table restaurants, and visiting world-class spas are classic ways to experience the area. While unwinding is certainly the attitude in Sonoma, activities like horseback riding, hot-air ballooning, and kayaking attract those looking for a little adventure. In the evening, watch the sunset over the vineyards and rolling hills, wine glass in hand.
