The best area to stay in Sant'Angelo is within the historic centre, particularly around Piazza del Popolo and the surrounding streets.

This area is the heart of Sant'Angelo, known for its charming, narrow cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and a relaxed pace of life. Piazza del Popolo is the main square, a natural gathering spot with cafes and local shops. From here, you can easily access the town's main attractions, including the ancient churches and viewpoints offering impressive vistas of the surrounding Basilicata landscape.

Families often find this central location ideal due to its pedestrian-friendly nature and the convenience of having everything within walking distance. Children can enjoy the open space of the piazza, and parents will appreciate the proximity to local eateries and gelato shops. The lack of heavy traffic makes strolling around with little ones much more pleasant.

For couples seeking a romantic getaway, staying in a small boutique hotel or a guesthouse tucked away on one of the quieter side streets near Piazza del Popolo offers an intimate experience.

The best time to go to Sant'Angelo is during the late spring (May to early June) or early autumn (September to early October).

During these periods, the weather is pleasantly warm and sunny, great for exploring the town's historic centre and the surrounding Murgia Materana Park. You'll avoid the intense heat of the summer months and the cooler, sometimes rainy, conditions of winter. These shoulder seasons also see fewer crowds, allowing for a more relaxed experience at popular attractions like the Sassi di Sant'Angelo.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will particularly appreciate the quieter atmosphere and comfortable temperatures, ideal for leisurely strolls through the Sassi or enjoying an evening meal at one of the many restaurants with panoramic views.
