Serious skiers come from near and far for the challenging pistes and stay for the crackling vacation atmosphere of this Tyrolean resort.

Experience one of the most beloved resorts in the Alps at Sankt Anton am Arlberg, known throughout Europe as a haven for premium snow sports. It’s an authentic Tyrolean village with stately chalets, charming streets and squares, and a lively après-ski buzz.

While many Tyrolean resorts cater to casual skiers and families, Sankt Anton also attracts professionals and experts to its expansive off-piste territory.

Sankt Anton features over 160 miles (260 kilometers) of pistes and an astounding vertical drop of nearly 5,000 feet (1.5 kilometers). Ski the big peaks of Kapall, Valluga and Schindler and the even more challenging Schindlerkar and Mattun.

With more than 90 cable cars and lifts, explore the entire area without ever using the same transport twice. There is even a 24-person Ferris wheel gondola. Most impressive are the newer six-person high-speed “Tanzböden” chairlift and the 10-person cable car linking Sankt Anton with the neighboring resorts, Lech Zürs and Warth-Schröcken. Future terrain skiers and snowboarders will love the Funslope, built for family enjoyment with boxes, bridges and tunnels for beginners and kids. Tobogganing is very popular in Austria do it here under the stars on the Nassereinbahn.

Gaze over the panoramic views of dramatic mountain peaks, which are spectacular whether it’s snowy or not. Sankt Anton sits in a valley near the Rosanna River, making it ideal for trekking and hiking as well, especially in the heady days of a Tyrolean summer when you’re surrounded by alpine wildflowers.

Walk through town and enjoy the charming architecture of an alpine village. The main thoroughfare is pedestrianized Dorfstraße, packed with shops, bars and other attractions. Many of the hotels have their own spas. For day visitors, the ARLBERG-Well.com wellness center has gyms, spas, pools and saunas in a modern facility.

Sankt Anton am Arlberg gets exciting after dark with a renowned après-ski party scene. For a more tranquil day, visit one of the neighboring villages like Nasserein or historic St. Christoph.
