The best area to stay in San Sabino is the historic Old Town, particularly around Piazza Umberto I.Old Town is the heart of San Sabino. It's a compact, pedestrian-friendly area characterised by narrow, winding cobblestone streets, mediaeval architecture, and panoramic views of the surrounding Umbrian countryside. You'll find many independent shops, traditional trattorias, and charming cafes clustered around the main square.Couples looking for a romantic escape will find Old Town particularly appealing. The intimate setting, historic buildings, and delightful local eateries create a wonderful atmosphere for a memorable trip. Strolling hand-in-hand through the ancient streets and enjoying an aperitivo with a view are highlights here. For those travelling with a family, especially with older children, the area just outside the main city walls, often referred to as Borgo San Sabino, offers a good balance. It's still within easy walking distance of the Old Town's attractions but provides more space, often with accommodations featuring gardens or pools, which can be a real bonus during warmer months. This area also tends to have easier access for parking.

The best time to visit San Sabino for pleasant weather and fewer crowds is during the shoulder seasons, specifically from April to early June and again from September to October.During these months, the weather is typically mild and sunny, great for exploring the Umbrian countryside and the town's historic sites without the intense heat of mid-summer. You'll find the vineyards and olive groves at their most picturesque, either bursting with spring blossoms or rich with autumn colours. For those who enjoy outdoor activities like hiking or cycling, these periods offer comfortable temperatures. You'll also experience a more authentic feel of San Sabino, as the main tourist rush hasn't yet arrived or has already passed, meaning shorter queues and more relaxed dining experiences. If you're planning a trip around specific local festivals, such as the olive oil harvest celebrations in late autumn, or the spring flower festivals, these shoulder seasons are ideal.
