Find hotels in San Donato from CA $72

The best area to stay in San Donato is within the historic village centre itself, offering a delightful blend of convenience and authentic Tuscan charm.

The village centre is compact and easily walkable, with its heart centred around Piazza Malaspina. Here, you'll find local restaurants, cafes, and artisan shops housed in medieval buildings. The narrow, winding streets lead to viewpoints offering expansive vistas of the surrounding Chianti vineyards and olive groves.

Couples looking for a romantic escape will find the village centre particularly appealing. The evenings are quiet and intimate, great for enjoying a leisurely dinner or a glass of local Chianti wine. The central location also makes it easy to explore nearby wineries and picturesque towns like Greve in Chianti or Siena.

For those travelling with a family, staying just outside the main village in one of the many agriturismos or country villas is an excellent option. These properties often feature larger accommodations, private gardens, and swimming pools, providing ample space and activities for children.

The best time to visit San Donato is during late spring, from May to June, or early autumn, from September to October, to enjoy pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

May and June offer warm, sunny days superb for exploring the vineyards and hill towns of Tuscany. The countryside is lush and green, and wildflowers are in bloom, creating beautiful scenery for leisurely drives or walks. This period is ideal for couples looking for a romantic escape with comfortable temperatures for outdoor activities and al fresco dining.

September and October bring slightly cooler temperatures, which are still very agreeable for sightseeing and outdoor pursuits. This is also harvest season, particularly for grapes and olives, offering a unique opportunity to experience local traditions and festivals.
