The best area to stay in San Andrés Paxtlán is within the village centre itself, as it offers the most convenient access to local life and amenities.

The village centre is compact and easy to navigate on foot, with the main church and municipal building forming the heart of the community. You'll find a few small shops selling essentials and local produce, as well as eateries serving traditional Oaxacan cuisine. The central plaza is often a gathering spot, especially during local festivals.

For those interested in experiencing authentic Zapotec culture, staying in the village centre is ideal. You'll be close to local markets, traditional craftspeople, and community events, allowing for a deeper connection with the local way of life.

The best time to go to San Andrés Paxtlán is during the dry season, which runs from October to May, offering pleasant weather for exploring.

Specifically, the months of November to February are particularly good. During this period, you'll experience cooler temperatures and lower humidity, making outdoor activities and exploring the village more comfortable. This is ideal for those who enjoy hiking in the surrounding mountains or simply strolling through the village's streets without the intensity of the summer heat.

For travellers interested in local cultural events, planning a visit around the Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) celebrations in early November can be a great experience. While not as widely publicised as in larger cities, the local observances offer a more intimate glimpse into traditional Oaxacan customs.

Conversely, the rainy season, from June to September, can bring heavy downpours, especially in the afternoons. While the landscape becomes lush and green, some rural roads might be less accessible, and outdoor plans could be disrupted.
