Via dei Coronari, indeed, is one of the oldest streets in the city. It was built in Roman times to connect the long-gone Pons Neronianus bridge (which remains you can see by looking over the railing on the Vittorio Emanuele II bridge and down in the river Tiber) and the Stadium of Domitian, now Piazza Navona. It became known in the Middle Ages as Via Recta, because of his straight path. When Pope Boniface VIII promoted the very first Jubilee of the Church, the road became one of the main ways towards the Vatican, and pilgrims in the tens of thousands walked down it every day. The name Via dei Coronari, eventually, chose to address the many shops of those who sold rosaries and religious images to the walking faithfuls. This long history reflects in the building you’ve just entered: on its ground floor, this 16th century property probably housed a inn servicing the many travelers. As a matter of fact, it looks like those who stayed here complained about the amount of light coming in from the windows, so a papal bull addressed the issue and ordered to wall them up, which is why the façade has its peculiar appearance. In addition, the painter Raphael himself lived right next door, before moving across the river when he was appointed head of the renovation works in St. Peter’s, while it’s very likely that Dante Alighieri, author of the Divine Comedy, stayed around these parts when visiting Rome between 1300–1301\. History is literally at every step here! For the reasons listed above and out of respect for the local regulations on conservation, Coronari 120 is a listed building, so this is why (for instance) the property couldn’t be fitted with an elevator. On the other hand, every effort has been made to include all possible modern comforts in the accommodation: all bedrooms feature A/C, all TV sets are smart-tvs, a washer-dryer will be there for all your laundry needs while in Rome and a free WI-FI connection is offered to all guests. At the same time, the apartment has maintained its original front door, its coffered ceilings and window blinds, which were carefully restored. Wooden floors are in every room except for the bathrooms and kitchenette. A large living room-cum-dining room is connected to the latter, which is fully equipped and features, among others, a dishwasher, stove and oven, a microwave oven, an automatic coffee machine, crockery, kitchenware etc. The apartment, which can sleep up to 5 people, has a master-bedroom with ample closet space, and may we attract your attention to the lovely, en-suite toilet that is concealed in the wardrobe itself? Another larger bathroom is fitted with a shower. Look out for the second bedroom with two single beds, plus a comfortable sofa, couch and armchair. All beds were recently upgraded, to provide greater comfort. \-Check-in- Standard check-in: 15:00-21:00\. (3pm to 9pm) Check-ins after 21:00 (9.00 pm) can be arranged for an additional cost of €50, to be paid in cash upon arrival. Check-out: by 11:00. Flexibility for check-in and check-out times is available, subject to apartment availability and cleaning requirements. An extra fee of €35 will be applied for check-ins on the following dates: December 25, January 1, and Easter Sunday. I’ve been in Rome several times and I feel that staying close to piazza Navona is ideal.This apartment is really nice, big rooms , confortable beds , enough closets, well equipped kitchen with everything you’ll need during your stay. They also have a small washing machine which was very helpful for us.The only reason I don’t give it a 5 stars is because of the main bathroom. Shower has no place to put a soap or anything, no place to hang towels inside the bathroom either. It’s a very easy fix that will make it much more convenient.Also, in the description it states that there is an elevator and there’s not. So plan accordingly if there’s someone in your group that cannot climb stairs. Everything else was great! I’d recommend this place to a family or 2 couples. ##### Vanessa B. Checking in was a bit annoying - had to be in person with passport information collected while we sat there. The other places we stayed were easier as we were able to simply text photos of our passports to the hosts. We also had some confusion about an additional fee that we thought we’d paid, plus a security deposit. The communication in advance of our arrival was overwhelming; we received many lengthy messages in VRBO containing a LOT of information; buried in one of those messages was a note about the added fee. Maybe that’s on me for missing it, but it was overwhelming to read that many long messages in the days leading up to our arrival. The apartment itself is great. Air conditioning was a blessing after long, hot days exploring. My only note is that the shower is steep, small, and slippery. Multiple of us almost fell as we were getting in/getting out, and my daughter actually did fall. Otherwise, lovely place to stay. ##### Ashley Paige F. We highly recommend anyone whether you’re coming solo or in a large group consider planning a stay here. The apartment management also contacted taxi services for us from the airport and they responded to any questions we had right away. The host was very responsive and I can’t thank them enough for the help with a late check in and transfer from the airport. Some minor suggestions- There is only one bathroom. And the shower head needs attention. It would be helpful to leave a binder with some suggestions or tips for local restaurants or places to go to avoid touristy hot spots. Rome can be challenging in the summer. But overall very good clean and safe spot and I would stay there again. ##### Brad D. Comfortable beds. Overall, excepting the bathroom very clean. Kitchen works well. Washer/dryer works well. We stayed 9 nights. The fellow who checked us in was surly, it wasn’t pleasant. The bathroom is severely dated and has sewer gas coming up from the sink. Once we plugged the sink drain it smelled much better. If the host put a new bathroom in, which wouldn’t cost much I’d give five stars. Also the TV’s worked well. The bedrooms were spacious and quiet. ##### Jim J. Via dei Coronari is an idyllic Roman street. The place was very clean, the check-in process was extremely smooth (much better than the average VRBO check-in), and the place itself is very nice and unique. The back (master) bedroom has poor lighting, and it would be an easy fix to add some bedside lamps. Also a hair dryer. Otherwise great place! ##### Jeremy S. The apartment is big and has a lot of character with original 15th century doors and ceilings. Perfect location just across the river from Castel Sant Angelo and down the street from the Piazza Navona. Lots of shops and cafes on the street. Communication with owners was fantastic. Check in was very smooth with Tommaso and we really appreciated the accommodation made to the check in time. Our family of 5 had lots of space and you can't beat the location. This location is definitely better with it being a little more central, making everything within walking distance. A lot of nice restaurants nearby and good shopping. The apartment was clean, spacious and had all the basics for a family. Given that it's on a touristy street, it was nice and quiet in the apartment as well! The host was easy to reach and they accommodated us VERY well. I would just be getting picky if I were to try to find something I didn't like. Definitely would rent there again. ##### Dan M. Apartment needs some attention, but suited our needs. We forgot my wife’s medication which she needs. We contacted the next morning and they checked and said the cleaners did not see it. It was left in the fridge. It was our mistake but the drug was not available in Europe and we had to leave Italy to refill it. Disappointed that the cleaners would not report the missed meds, ruined the rest of our trip. ##### Murray D.
