"This is a beautiful old hotel property. It has great bones and the rooms have been updated and modernized nicely. That said, there are some very quirky aspects to the property. Firstly, there is no reception - just an automated machine that provides a key card. This means that there is no one to ask about parking, amenities etc. The second thing is that no one speaks English at all. The cleaning staff was very sweet but could not speak a word. We had to use Google Translate for all...

Top Roben Hotel Reviews

Hotel Schloss Schweinsburg

Hotel Schloss Schweinsburg

10/10 Excellent
"Beautiful hotel set in nice grounds. The main building used to be a palace. We were allocated a room in the adjoining building. When we first arrived, we were told that they were full, despite us having booked in advance. But this was soon sorted out. Our room was clean and tidy and spacious. It had a slanted ceiling right above the bed, so we had to be careful getting in and out. The wifi was not very strong in the room but luckily we did not really need it for anything special. The restaurant offered a buffet or the a la carte menu. The buffet looked a bit lacking so we chose the menu and the food was excellent. We can highly recommend the pork schnitzel and the salmon. Parking free and on site. All in all, a lovely place to stay."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Roben?
The best area to stay in Roben is the Old Town, particularly around the Markt (Market Square), as it offers the most convenient and enjoyable experience for visitors.

This central area is the heart of Roben, characterised by its historic cobblestone streets, traditional half-timbered houses, and a good selection of independent shops and eateries. The Markt itself is a focal point, featuring the historic Town Hall and often hosting local markets. Most of Roben's main attractions, such as the St. George's Church and the Roben Castle, are within easy walking distance.

Couples will find the Old Town particularly appealing for a romantic getaway. The charming streets are superb for leisurely strolls, and there are many cosy restaurants and wine bars where you can enjoy local Thuringian cuisine. Its pedestrian-friendly nature means you can explore at your own pace without needing a car.

For solo travellers, the Old Town provides a welcoming and engaging base. The concentration of cafes and cultural sites makes it easy to meet people or simply enjoy the local atmosphere.
When is the best time to go to Roben?
The best times to visit Roben are during the spring (late April to early June) and autumn (September to October) months.

Spring in Roben offers mild temperatures and the landscape is particularly appealing as everything comes into bloom. This period is ideal for exploring the surrounding countryside, enjoying walks along the Saale River, or visiting the Dornburg Castles which are surrounded by beautiful gardens. The weather is generally pleasant for outdoor activities without being too hot.

Autumn also provides comfortable weather, with the added beauty of changing foliage, especially in the forested areas around the town. This season is great for those who enjoy hiking or cycling, as the trails are less crowded and the colours are stunning.
