It was what I was looking for with the exception of the last day and the lady that handle the mini bar. Apparently she used to charge me for using the mini bar when I didn’t do it. The lady in the front was nice enough to took care of it. What left me with a bad feeling was when I checkout I left my passport in the room when I went back to get it it was no longer there. The lady who cleaned the room claim she never saw my passport. After almost having a panic attack the front lady I explain to her to show me the camera and she make another phone call and BOOM my passport appear. Who found it the lady that do the mini bar. As a state employee a passport is a legal document if you “find it” you supposed to give it ASAP to the front desk. I love the staff I’m planning to go back to Rio for a convention in a couple of months and I would to tell my staff to stay with you guys. But that lady should be repreminded.

All was ok until...
Check in was fairly fast so I was ok with that. The hotel is aging but they are doing what they can to keep it maintained. The bad, one of my friends could have visitors but for some strange reason the front desk denied a friend to go to our room. This seemed to us very rare but they didn’t allow us.

Nice hotel, but issues...
I was pleased with the hotel and the room, it’s location a block from Ipanema Beach, and the view of Cristo Redentor from my hotel room’s window. The breakfast was typical and good, and for the most part, the staff was friendly. However, though the first morning, the shower functioned normally, by the second day, I had to turn the cold water off completely in order to get a lukewarm shower. By the third and final day, it was practically a cold shower. When I told the front desk as I was checking out, the guy made it seem like it was my responsibility to tell them. I was there in business, and working 12 to 14 hour days. While that’s not TOO unreasonable, as I probably should have told them, I would have expected them to come me something or lower the bill. Given that they charged me a half day for a 5PM checkout, that would have been the “right” thing to do. With SO many great hotels in Rio, I’ll have to think long and hard as to whether I’ll stay there next time I’m in Rio, 2 months from now....

Great location close to Ipanema beach
Overall a good stay and a very pleasant experience only let down by the fact that we lacked hot water. The rooftop pool and lounge bar area more than made up for this as did the breakfast. Hard to beat for location and value for money albeit starting to look a bit jaded now. Award winning in 2009 probably means that ten years on its due a makeover.

Room category discrepancy
Nice hotel and location! Clean but out dated. Nice breakfast buffet and pool and very close to the beach and great restaurants! Had a problem with the type of room I ordered and they tried to downgrade me with little or no compensation, but they ended up finding the catagory of room I ordered but only after I insisted on the category I paid for...found it strange that a room magically appeared after I didn't back down and accept a free drink for the room downgrade!

Great location and service
The location is the best you can get in Ipanema without paying lots of $$ (I’m not saying is cheap but comparing to others), steps from the beach, restaurants, bars, shops, etc and very safe area. Service was great, staff looks after you and your safety and always willing to help with a big smile. Room and hotel does need a bit of a refurb but I was most of the time out and about so didn’t bother me too much to be honest. Would stay again and recommend if I’m back in Rio.
