Find hotels in Riex from CA $152

The best area to stay in Riex is directly within the village itself, or in one of the neighbouring Lavaux vineyard villages such as Epesses or Cully.

Riex is a small, picturesque village located in the heart of the Lavaux UNESCO World Heritage site, famous for its terraced vineyards overlooking Lake Geneva. It's a quiet, elevated location, offering stunning panoramic views of the lake, mountains, and vineyards. The village itself is small, with narrow lanes and traditional Vaudois houses, and typically features a few local eateries and wine cellars.

For couples seeking a romantic and tranquil escape, staying in Riex or a nearby village like Epesses is ideal. You'll find boutique hotels or guesthouses often housed in renovated winegrowers' homes, offering an authentic experience. The main draw is the opportunity to walk directly from your accommodation into the vineyards, enjoying wine tastings at local "caveaux" and savouring the breathtaking scenery. Many establishments offer rooms with lake-facing balconies, superb for enjoying the sunset with a glass of local wine.

Travellers looking for a more accessible base with slightly more amenities, while still being in the Lavaux region, might prefer Cully. Cully is a larger village right on the lakeside, offering more dining options and direct access to Lake Geneva's promenade and boat services.

The best time to visit Riex is from late spring to early autumn, specifically from May to October, when the weather is most pleasant for exploring the Lavaux vineyards.

During these months, the temperatures are mild, and there's plenty of sunshine, making it ideal for walking or cycling through the terraced vineyards. This period also sees the region at its most picturesque, with the vines lush and green, and later in autumn, turning golden and red just before the grape harvest.

Couples often find the shoulder seasons of May-June and September-October particularly appealing. These months offer comfortable weather for romantic strolls and wine tastings without the peak summer crowds. Many local wineries also offer special events and tours during the harvest season in September and October, providing a unique insight into the region's winemaking traditions.

For those who enjoy outdoor activities, the summer months of July and August are superb for hiking and boating on Lake Geneva.
