Das Casa das Calhetas ist ein sehr altes Haus aus dem 17. Jahrhundert. Der Charme der alten Zeit ist noch immer vorhanden. Eingerichtet sind die Zimmer individuell und typisch portugiesisch, und vor allem mit Liebe zum Detail. Immer frische Blumen aus dem Garten zum Beispiel. Während meines Aufenthaltes feierte ich meinen 50. Geburtstag. An dem Morgen des besagten Tages erwartete mich eine Überraschung im Frühstücksraum. Es wurde mir ein richtiger Geburtstagstisch bereitet, mit einem Kuchen in Herzform, Obst und Rosenblätter als Dekoration. Dazu eine Flasche Wein und etliche kleine Köstlichkeiten, wie getrocknete Bananenscheiben und Erdnüsse von der Insel, Honig von den Bienen des Eigentümers. Die Herzlichkeit der Besitzer ist nicht zu übertreffen. Fast täglich wird der Kontakt durch die Eigentümer gesucht (jedoch ohne aufdringlich zu sein) und Tipps für die Erkundung gegeben. Wer landnah reisen möchte bzw. Land und Leute kennenlernen möchte, reines Portugal erleben möchte, ist hier sehr gut aufgehoben. Leute, die ein modernes Hotel mit internationalem Frühstück bevorzugen (hier gibt es nur ein typisch portugiesisches Frühstück, wobei auch auf Wünsche einegegangen wird) sind hier auf jeden Fall verkehrt.

Great room and very friendly

We loved this place. You get your own little apartment with an amazing porch that overlooks the ocean. The owners live on site and are very friendly and helpful. Only problem is it is not within walking distance of anything.... Rent a car and you'll be fine.
