Hermitage Hills Estate was built in 1995 as a replica of Andrew Jackson's Hermitage: 4 bedrooms, 5 baths, finished basement, 4 fireplaces, and 4 ponds. Not far from Hillsdale College for parents' weekend, graduation, and CCA. Even closer to John A. Halter Shooting Sports Center. Wedding pavilion and many extras for wedding weekends. See the end of description for how to book your wedding here. At a Glance: Weddings--Scroll to the end of this description for pricing and details. Bedrooms--Four official bedrooms: Main floor master with en suite--one king Upstairs master with en suite--one queen Upstairs I Love the USA--two queens Upstairs Spring Green--two queens Our finished basement sleepover space is not a bedroom since there's no egress window. There are seven queen beds in the basement, two of which are in the private room. There are also several queen and twin airbeds that can be inflated. We have pillows and sheets for them as well. The nightly base rate includes up to six guests (humans and dogs). For more than six guests, the price is the nightly rate plus $35 per guest/ per night. Exterior surveillance camera records video, audio, and still images. Disconnection is not allowed. All the Details: Hermitage Hills Estate is a red brick estate with acres of wooded trails and sandy paths, bonfire pits, four ponds and a 4,000 square foot pavilion. There is radiant in-floor heat throughout the house on all three levels and central air-conditioning. It looks like President Andrew Jackson's Hermitage in Nashville, but with modern amenities like indoor plumbing and an in-house kitchen. Children & Pets: Children ages 24 months and younger stay free. Children older than 24 months count as guests and are included in the guest count. We are pet friendly for friendly pets (with prior approval only). We require you tell us about your pets before a reservation is confirmed. We also require that the pet(s) you bring to Hermitage Hills Estate be counted as part of the total guest count as you book your reservation. Lastly, pets CANNOT be left alone inside the house, especially locked inside a room. We have had several beautiful six-panel stained oak doors get scratched by dogs who were locked inside a room by themselves. Please bring a cage for your pet. We have a few extra dog crates here as well available upon request. Outdoors: This 5,600 square foot home is a paradise for adults and children alike. Front and back porches grace the first floor and front and back balconies span the second floor. The balconies are relaxing spaces to take in the outdoors at the treetop level. Hermitage Hills Estate has 10+ acres of water: four large fishing/ swimming/ kayaking ponds. No Michigan fishing license is needed since we own the ponds. Please bring your own bait, tackle, and poles. Ask Nick about the best fishing spots! Our guests are welcome to use four adult-sized kayaks, canoe, paddleboard, and our old, leaky rowboat. Lifejackets in several sizes available. Enjoy a large reading selection and cozy up by the bonfire pit while stargazing in the backyard. A charcoal grill is also available for your use. Enjoy a stroll through rolling glacial till known as "hills and dales" in Hillsdale County, Michigan, including our black walnut grove of nearly 300 mature trees. The House Amenities: Bed linens, pillows, and towels are here for our guests. A washer and dryer is available for your use. Entertainment: Campus high-speed WiFi is always available. Fireworks may be used in the designated area only, which is not by the house. We will show you where this is. You must have our permission beforehand to use fireworks. Other rules and local ordinances also apply. Renewable Energy: Although we are not off-grid, our solar panels produce as much as or more energy than is used at Hermitage Hills Estate. An outdoor wood boiler is maintained by us and provides radiant heat and hot water. It complements the solar panels in our efforts to use renewable resources. Be a Hermit if You Choose: Located on 64 acres with four ponds, Hermitage Hills Estate is rural getaway. Come with your groceries and firewood, fishing poles, cross country skis, and mountain bikes to our destination and just stay, enjoy and explore the outdoors, and rest. Enjoy the quiet serenity here. Come From All Directions: Hermitage Hills Estate is centrally located in south central Michigan about two hours from Detroit, about three hours from Chicago, and three hours from Cleveland. About eight miles north of I-80-90 toll road in Indiana and Ohio and a short drive to Hillsdale College. Only 45 minutes from Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich. Well-behaved dogs and children are welcome, though they must be closely supervised in and around our water features. Swimming, fishing, kayaking, ice fishing, etc. is done at your own risk as there is no lifeguard on duty. Life jackets are available for your use. Jul 6, 2025 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Kept the kids off the screen! House is huge. It's big enough that if you all want to do something together you can. If you want to spread out and have your own spaces to do something on your own or a small conversations you can. We barely saw the kids. They would get up in the morning and head out to fish the ponds and show back up in the evening if we didn't check on them in between. They had gray fish stories, good enough to get the men down fishing! We loved how laid back the managers are and the communication was great. We had ages 10 to 83, and everybody was happy. I do suggest if you can bring your own golf cart, fire wood, pool sticks, and long lighters. ![](https://a.travel-assets.com/ugc/hotel-reviews/f14e4015-b422-403c-aadd-a191fdb603f0-1751824169300.jpg?impolicy=resizecrop&rw=204&ra=fit&q=high) ##### Laura F. Host responds to questions quickly. BUT BE AWARE. PRICE is based on per person staying per night, not necessarily what you find during your search. Non-refundable once booked. We had an additional bill sent to us that raised the cost by over 50% prior to staying! And per their notebook, day guests are an additional charge (PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT if you are considering booking) I was disappointed that my initial costs substantially increased once all the added fees from VRBO and HOST were added after a non-refundable booking due to the aforementioned items Beds are extremely hard, it felt like we were sleeping on a box spring. Most of the beds were like this. Also, different sites have different bed breakdowns, there are no futons. There is no bathroom downstairs where the 7 queen beds are. The playground needs some TLC, and was unsafe, due to the state it was in and poison ivy the kids were not able to use it. There is a shoes off in house policy. This would have been nice to know prior. Stairs are carpet and extremely slick, with a very wobbly railing. Also, HOST greets you to let you in and he was almost always within 200 meters of the house. He stays at the trailer close by and was seen often when walking outside or roaming the property. ##### Sally Stayed 2 nights in Jul 2025 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Antomeika S. There must be a catch! But everything was as perfect as it seemed online. Nick is the most thoughtful and gracious host. He provided us with all the information we needed and showed us around. The home is perfect and I would definitely return! ##### Antomeika S. We stayed here with our 7 children. More beautiful than pics can show. Wonderful host, who helped with all questions. Beautiful property to hike, fish, and explore!! The house is beautiful, clean and spacious. We would love to come back again. Great yard space and playground for kids. Absolutely serene property. Even though we were secluded food and groceries were only 10 mins away. Fully stocked kitchen. Thanks nick for sharing your property with us and being so available!! ##### Michael P. What an awesome property and experience! Nick and Marisa do a great job making you feel welcomed with some of the little extras like farm fresh eggs and welcome cookies. My family along with other family, 4 adults, 4 kids, stayed for 4 nights and it was perfect. A lot of room to spread out. We were not tripping over each other. There was so much to do....swimming, kayaking, fishing, hiking, eating. Lots of eating, which was made possible by a fantastic kitchen with modern appliances. Since we were so active, the kids and adults (clothes) eventually got dirty, the washing machine and dryer were at our disposal. That came in real handy. What was really awesome was that if we needed anything, Nick and Marisa tried their best to accommodate us. And once again, they did a fantastic job. Thank you Nick and Marisa. We will be back! - Ingallineras and Kownicks, Chicago, IL ##### Paul I. ### 10/10 Excellent #### MARK F. Jul 22, 2019 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Great for family reunions Our annual family reunion was a great success due to the property we found on VRBO. The Heritage Hills Estate is fantastic, and everything that the listing say that it is. I could go on and on about our stay, but I'll hit a few highlights. It starts with the owner, Nick, who met us at the property and explained how everything works. He communicated with us every day to make sure we were happy. We work up one morning and did not have hot water. Imagine (20) people not to be able to shower. We phoned Nick and he told care of it immediately. The estate is practically sound proof. I spoke with everyone in our group and everyone said it was a beautiful place to stay. The fish were not biting the whole time we were there, but i couldn't blame Nick for that. Highly recommend for a big group meeting ##### MARK F. Stayed 3 nights in Jul 2019 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Suzan D. Our expectations were exceeded by the host for communications and caring about our stay. Please note that although the listing states ir sleeps a lot of people, you have to pay extra for those people. Well worth it! Plenty of parking, all big beds, linens, towels, full kitchen stocked with all you need to cook meals as well as coffee etc. The grounds are sweet and peaceful and quiet. The house is clean and olderbt tasteful with all modern conveniences including wifi that reaches all over. The attached garage has a BBQ and extra tables for outside gather which we used unexpectedly and enjoyed the lovely spring weather and blossoms everywhere! The price is steeper than we wanted, but because we wanted everyone in one place for the graduation, it actually was much nicer and cheaper than other stays. Also the house is so big there are several sitting areas, libraries, piano, organ, just many spaces to be. Note: the road is dirt gravel last 1/2 mins to get there that posed us no issues but may bother some persons. Not us! ##### Suzan D. Stayed 2 nights in May 2023 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Suzan D. We booked our stay here a year in advance wanting to be sure to get the Heritage House again. Back in 2023, our first son Graduated from Hillsdale and we stayed here with family and friends. This is the PERFECT place! It easily sleep large crowd on 3 levels, has lovely indoor and outdoor seating and eating areas, and the kitchen is set up to feed a crowd. The owners are quick to respond even bringing ice to us when we were short notice. We hosted a graduation party after the ceremony and it was a lovely setting for all ages to enjoy the atmosphere and memorialize the occasion to be something special. We used local restaurants to bring in food and they are delicious and helpful also. We have 1 more son graduating in 2027 and will use Hermitage House again! ##### Suzan D. We ended up with 11 adults, 6 children and 2 dogs spending the weekend together. There are features of this house that worked for all of us. The house has all the space we needed to spread out and enjoy our time while still being together. We started a fire in the kitchen/dining room fireplace, the kids raided the toys and play space in the basement, and the dogs LOVED all the area to run. This place is fully stocked, plenty of towels, pillows, blankets, beds and TP for all our needs. The host were friendly, quick to respond and they had the house already filled with all those extra thoughtful touches. If you need a large space for people to come together, then I highly recommend this house. All you need to bring is your clothing and food, everything else is supplied by this host. ##### Beth S.
