Come to this peaceful stretch of coastline, away from the busier parts of India, to relax under tall pine trees and see some remarkable Goan buildings.

Querim Beach, also known as Keri beach, is a sunny haven of sand, sea and serenity in the northern part of Goa. The secluded beach attracts fewer visitors, and therefore fewer vendors, than most Goa beaches. To add some culture to your trip, visit an ancient temple, an old fort and historic Goan houses.

The beach comprises a long stretch of sand with a few rocky outcrops, rows of trees and a river inlet. Arrive at sunrise to take photos of the shoreline on the almost deserted beach. Walk along the 2 kilometres (1.2 miles) of peaceful shoreline and take a seat under the pine trees to catch your breath in the shade. After a refreshing splash in the rolling waves, find a tranquil setting for sunbathing.

Visit the turquoise-and-white Ajoba Temple along the beach. It is so ancient that its inception date has been lost over time. Also browse the centuries-old Goan houses just off the beach. Enjoy a cheap Indian curry with naan bread at one of the small beach shacks, some of which offer accommodation too.

Walk over to the Terekhol River, which flows out into the sea just beyond the row of trees. In nearby Querim village is the Terekhol River Crossing, a ferry service which can take you from the Sindhudurg District to North Goa. Just across the river is the 17th-century Terekhol Fort, which has been converted into a hotel. From its rooms you can enjoy splendid views of the Arabian Sea.

Querim Beach lies in the northwest of the Goa region, just north of Arambol Beach. It is 1.7 kilometres (1 mile) from the Maharashtra Border. To reach Querim Beach, consider renting a bicycle or scooter in Goa you can take your time, stopping to see the Sai Baba Temple and Ravalnath Temple along the way. A faster way to get there is to take a bus or taxi from central Goa. Small signs point the way to the beach. Visit between October and June to avoid the wet season.
