We were so excited to stay at The Marmalade Hotel. However, this hotel misses the mark in a few categories:
We were left to carry our luggage up the stairs (no elevator).
The staff sort of half-heartedly answers questions about area restaurants/sights.
Our room's thermostat was not working properly and we roasted on the first night. We tried getting help, but the night shift woman didn't know how the control worked. The next day we found out that the receptionist needed to turn our HVAC system on with a switch behind the front desk! There was not an apology for our hot, sleepless night. An apology would've gone a long way.

This property is grossly overpriced. It is no more than an motel but we pay 7 star hotel prices.
Not worth the costs and poor value
At check in, I was asked to pay for the stay despite already having prepaid through Expedia. I was refunded promptly once I showed the confirmation email. The hotel room itself is nice and quiet. We stayed in hoping for room service but it was not being offered. Two employees told us they are short staffed and don’t normally work the positions they were in, hence all the confusion. The rate is quite high for the lack of service and amenities you get at the hotel. Next time, I’ll look for a hotel for on the water instead.
Loved the area. Walkable, plenty of stores and restaurants. The best restaurants book pretty quick so if you are interested in one, ensure to make reservations ahead of time. Lovely town
The Marmalade staff went above and beyond in helping us with our dining choices even going to the restaurant to confirm our reservations. The breakfast was delicious. Would definitely stay here again.
Loved Portree and this hotel. Our only suggestion would be to book dining reservations in advance. We BARELY got in for dinner after trying 5-6 restaurants as a walk-up. And this was early in the season (3rd week of April). The brunch at the hotel is great, but I'd also book that early if you want an early start out on the trails.
The hotel is clean and convenient, all in a standard modern style. I usually prefer old school with lots of character, but this was a last minute emergency stop. And what a great choice! The staff were absolutely wonderful - really kind and helpful. We booked late in the evening because a road closure precluded our getting back to our hotel on the mainland. The staff graciously offered us toothbrushes and went out of their way to find a restaurant that could accommodate us at the late hour. So welcoming
All of the staff at this property were lovely. They were all helpful and attentive.
Susanne, at the front desk is a gem. She was friendly, helpful and just so friendly. She had great recommendations for restaurants outside of Portree and was so sweet to our son.
The rooms itself were great with spacious bathrooms. The staff was uber friendly and knew us / which room we were staying throughout the hotel. The restaurant there is fabulous, we ate both dinner and breakfast and immensely enjoyed both. Would NOT hesitate to stay here again! Such a pleasure in Portree!
Beautiful property but the stand out was the staff. Incredibly helpful and attentive. Full of local knowledge and recommendations and nothing was ever too much bother.
Really lovely hotel. Rooms were well designed and large, staff were really friendly. So quiet and got a great sleep plus there were snacks in the room which was a nice touch. Would also really recommend the breakfast. Great value and delicious
Lovely. Nice check in staff. Room was very comfortable. Great linens, had the best sleep. Bathroom and amenities were amazing. A must stay if you visit Portree. I checked the other options as we strolled thru town just curious-nothing close to this! Don’t hesitate to book here!
Stayed one night during a Highland road trip - lovely hotel and an excellent dinner. Sadly we left before breakfast, but really hope to be back someday soon !

Great location to walk into Portree in 5 minutes. Relatively central to drive to other areas and sites in Isle of Skye. All of the staff where very warm and personable
Excellent hotel, beautiful views from the rooms and very attentive staff. Great bathroom and also ate breakfast here which was wonderful. Only a 5 minute walk into the centre also - would definitely recommend.
We so enjoyed our visit here. We stayed for 2 days. What a lovely hotel. Great restaurant - we had dinner and breakfast here. Options were delicious. Our initial reception person was new and did not know the area but everyone else was informative and helpful. This was a great location to tour Skye and an easy walk into town. All the extras were appreciated. The view from our window was so pretty and the bed was comfortable. Nice coffee/tea options too. We recommend and want to come back!

The property managers were absolutely wonderful and welcoming us with a card and some Scottish tablet since we were on our honeymoon. Very friendly and accommodating staff.

Given what we paid, not worth the cost. You’re paying for location, decent hotel but certainly overpriced. No food available on Mondays, staff not particularly friendly.

We loved our stay at the Marmalade. Easy walk into town but quiet and removed from the touristy center. Staff was friendly and helpful. Do fine at the Chargrill for dinner if you have a chance, best steak we’ve had all year!

Do not stay here. Heavily overpriced at £200 per person per night! We were in an attic room with no lift to it or air conditioning and a window that was broken and could not stay open! There was no room for us in their dining room to have dinner and the second day there was no water from 11am until 5 but they didn’t tell us when it went on and had said we might have to leave!! We didn’t even get a complimentary glass of wine or money off!! I can’t get in contact with hotels .com to talk to anyone about it all! It has been a terrible £800 stay which we were treating ourselves to for our special wedding anniversary!!!

You stayed in one of our Premier rooms, and they are located on the top floor of the hotel to allow the best views. The Premier are large and light rooms, the one you occupied during your stay has 3 windows, and I feel that calling them attic rooms is not a fair description. Our maintenance team has been notified about the issue with the one window which would not stay open. Should you have contacted our reception team at any time with your concerns, we would have been able to act on them immediately and of course, offer you compensation to any inconveniences during your stay. We loved our room! It was spacious and well appointed. There were plenty of outlets to recharge our phones. The bedding was so comfortable! Breakfast was delicious and a fun experience. All of the staff were very friendly.

Warmth and modern luxury. We enjoyed several nights at this lovely hotel just a short walk up the hill from the waterfront. An excellent restaurant and fantastic staff made a rainy visit feel cozy and welcoming.

I was on a tour and had one night in Portree. I am so glad I picked the Marmalade Hotel. They were so nice and helpful and the room was comfortable and I had a good night sleep. A easy 5 minute walk into town.

Enjoyed the stay very much, no negatives. Food was excellent, and if you are not fond of sea-food (like me) provided excellent choices. Enjoyed the cocktails.
The hotel was cosy but yet modern. Staff was excellent.
As noted no negatives but Skye is busy and getting booked in for the hotel and a meal at their restaurant requires to be done in advance. 5 stars for us

We loved our stay at the Marmalade! Perfect location on Isle of Skye for tourists. The staff were all so welcoming and helpful. Our room was clean and the shower was always hot! Loved our breakfasts and supper at the restaurant on site.
