The best time to visit Penafiel is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.

These periods offer pleasant weather, with comfortable temperatures that are ideal for exploring the vineyards and historic sites. Spring brings blooming landscapes, while autumn coincides with the grape harvest season, known locally as the "vendimia," which can be a fascinating experience for wine enthusiasts. The summer months (July and August) can be quite hot, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C, while winters (November to March) are cooler and can be rainy.

For those interested in wine tourism, arriving in late September or early October allows you to witness the grape harvest firsthand. Many local bodegas offer special tours and tastings during this time, providing a deeper insight into the winemaking process. This is particularly appealing for couples looking for a romantic trip with unique cultural experiences.

If you prefer a quieter trip with fewer crowds and pleasant weather for outdoor activities like cycling or walking, late spring offers a lovely balance.
