Baldwin and Baby Beach just beyond and all areas of the island within easy driving distance. Ho'okipa and Kanaha are short drives in either direction. The cottage offers a fenced and gated yard area, shared with my one bedroom cottage (VRBO#457533) private parking, coastal style decor, fully equipped kitchen, ample space for your surf/windsurf gear, laundry area, and an outdoor covered lanai set up for island style dining. Beach chairs and beach towels are provided. Paia is a reflection of its history as a booming sugar cane plantation town with its old plantation style wooden buildings still intact. This quaint little beach town has an array of fine specialty shops, boutiques, surf shops, antique stores, bakeries, and even an old fashioned tattoo parlor. Award wining restaurants offer everything the discerning diner could want from casual bites, to the full service internationally renowned seafood of Mama's Fish House. Mana Foods, the legendary hip little grocery store built on local, organic principals is five minutes walk. They have a great prepared food bar, including soup and salad. Your hosts have lived on the North Shore for many years. They are both active members of the North Shore community and can provide access to resources and hidden treasures that are simply unavailable to regular tourists. Whether you want to charge the winter surf at Ho'okipa, meander through the Upcountry meadows, explore the idyllic waterfalls of East Maui or indulge your tropical golfing fantasies, your hosts will ensure you have the local know-how to get the most out of your trip.Getting Around Paia is the perfect starting place for day trips around the island. A car is necessary if you plan on sightseeing. We do have a bus that takes you to locations around the island but you will miss some of the islands most popular attractions. The Maui Bus stop is about a 10 minute walk from the property. If you want to try something different from the resort and touristy part of the Island, this is it! Please note that due to Maui County regulations, no more than 4 people can occupy this cottage. Not available? I have no interest in that type of stay. This cottage in Paia was perfect for us! It’s private and it gives you your own personal space. There is another cottage on the property as well but gives you plenty of privacy. There is air-conditioning, but we never once turned it on. You just need to open the windows and the tradewinds cool it off within minutes! We had come from staying in Waikiki and then to this location. It was night and day for us. Waikiki was so loud and obnoxious. Every morning we woke up to doves cooing and the occasional rooster crowing. The property is very private to park your car too because it is behind a fence gate which you roll back and fourth to come in and out. The center of town is within walking distance to a whole bunch of great restaurants and fun shopping. It’s not fancy, but it’s perfect and I would highly recommend anyone who would like to stay on the northern part of Maui. You’re super close to the road to Hana and Haleakala. The check in/check out was easy. The detached unit felt private and roomy. It was very clean. The place was as advertised. No surprises. Easy walk to Paia with its restaurants and shopping. The location is great and within walking distance of lots of restaurants and beaches. If we return to Maui this will be the first place we look to stay. In actuality, you walk into a unit with concrete floors and what appears to be not great thrift shop furnishings. (The pictures show some different furniture and a rug). I felt every day like I was walking into a garage that someone turned into a cottage. If the photos were more accurate, I would have booked elsewhere.
