Orcas Island featuring a river or creek, landscape views and forest scenes
A simpler time is a big attraction for this island village on the Salish Sea. Travel here to let your daily worries melt away as you revitalize yourself.

Visit the relaxing village of Olga in Washington State’s San Juan Islands. Leave the mainland behind at Anacortes, Washington where ferries transport passengers and cars on a 30-minute trip to the islands. Boats dock at all four of the most inhabited islands in the archipelago: Lopez, San Juan, Shaw and Orcas.

Drive around the horseshoe-shaped island of Orcas from the ferry terminal to Olga, passing through Eastsound. If you leave your vehicle on the mainland, rent a car, ride a moped or bicycle or take a shuttle bus in warmer months. Sailing a private boat and arriving by plane are other options to reach the island.

Breathe in fresh sea air while exploring this enchanting island. Experience one of the best sleeps you’ll ever have. Accommodations are varied, ranging from resorts to campgrounds.

Walk on Olga’s long wooden pier. Scan the water regularly while you’re in Olga. You may see seals, whales and numerous other marine animals.

Visit the Artworks building which houses an art gallery and café, but began in 1936 as a strawberry-barreling plant for local growers. Nearby Doe Bay has the post office built in 1908. Olga was named after the first postmaster’s wife.

Although Orcas is the largest of the San Juan Islands, you’re always close to something here. Travel to Moran State Park between Olga and Eastsound where the 2,409-foot-tall (734-meter) Mt. Constitution has an observation building resembling a 12th-century European watchtower. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the archipelago from the top.

Rent a sailboat in Olga to see the island from a different perspective. Tee off at the island’s 9-hole golf course near Eastsound. While you dine on local organic produce at one of the island’s restaurants, accompany your meal with a bottle of island-produced wine.

Olga is sometimes called “the gem of the San Juans.” Visit to find out why this town on Orcas Island is such a treasure.
