Stayed over for one night passing through on a cycling trip. The host was extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful storing and charging our bikes. Only open for B&B but fortunately the local tearoom opens on weekend evenings for meals. Well stocked community shop next door and community pub at the end of the street. Great village and area.
The hotel itself is lovely. Sadly the dining room and bar are closed but the hotel side is open for business! Clean rooms, comfy bed and delightful host. Breakfast was cooked fresh to order and was perfectly done. Really lovely place to stay to take in the surrounding villages and towns. Peaceful village with cafes
Just returned from four nights at the Cross Keys ...... Susan the owner and staff are more than welcoming ...... New Galloway is tranquility it’s self !!!!! And a hidden gem for those looking to escape for a while .... a piece of Scottish charm and well worth a visit ..... but don’t tell too many people 😁
Arrived late and departed early unfortunately so didnt eat or drink. A very warm welcome and a comfy bed was had,no street parking to be found around the hotel but there is a large free car park 5 mins walk away uphill
Solo traveller on a motorcycle trip, small country inn, owner and staff were friendly, great value and whilst rustic and a little dated, the room was spotless, food was home cooked good and plentiful and a great wee bar - good food, clean room, decent bed and a few beers for very little money.

Bad experience. No Sunday food, no Sunday bar. No where in village to get these items. Central heating poor.

The food was fabulous both breakfast and dinner. Both ladies were pleasant and beyond helpful.
Having paid extra for a large room, we were disappointed with our room which could not by any stretch of the imagination be large.
We booked the hotel under the impression it had a garden as advertised “not true”
We booked a four day stay arriving on Sunday the bar and restaurant was closed throughout our stay only opening for the quiz night Wednesday nothing to do with us being there hence we left a day early truly feeling let down and disappointment which having to pay for the night we did not stay with this in mind we would like to request a refund for one night
For your info the hotel is for sale!
Kind regards

Really friendly hotel with lots of quirks. The village is a sleepy hollow and the hotel is a great spot. Some may say it is a little dated, but I’d say if you want new, clean lines, city clone the you could stay in a Holiday in served by disinterested staff with no reason to make your stay special. Come to a place like the Cross Keys and you get the real thing, warts and all. Not that there are any, just some tiny midgy bites. Our lives would be a lot poorer without places like this.
Bed linen had strong, damp, musty smell that kept me awake. Quite unfriendly host, unwilling to accommodate even small requests. Dining room very cold. Limited choice of food since the ovens had been out of commission for a week. However, parking was convenient and off-road.
We stayed here on our wedding night 5th of august 2017 after our fantastic wedding at Overton house. We checked in over the phone and on arrival were unexpectedly upgraded to the honeymoon suite a lovely room with gorgeous furniture. we were greeted at breakfast with a glass of champagne and a very welcoming host. The breakfast was lovely with best eggs i have ever tasted.
We were welcomed with congratulations on arrival and a champagne breakfast couldn't have asked for more. Highly Recommend A+
Enjoyed the hotel, be aware that cash is still king in New Galloway so bring some with you! Liked the wee pub attached on site and the breakfast was good.
My wife and I had a very pleasant stay and were made to feel very welcome. The owner is so sweet and a brilliant chef. We will certainly be revisiting!
Absolutely fantastic host and friendly staff, would deffinetly state again, the tv in the room is pretty small and the bed was quite creaky but overall 4 out of 5 for the cross keys.
Meals served from restaurant are pretty delicious.
A lovely Village setting, Not much to see or do !!
WE arrived at the Hotel, a bit early than check in. The landlady was very welcoming, we were able to get washed and changed before checking in. Small hotel well kept, we had a problem with the toilet, but informed the hotel asap.
The village has one store and one post office and one opened pub in the Cross keys. parking is available around the corner from hotel. local restaurants are the smithy tea room and kitty tea shop and cross keys hotel.
I had an evening meal in the cross keys, lovely meal. Breakfast was nice and plenty of toast and coffee and tea available.
The only downside to the area, is having to drive to explore the area while we were there..
Room and facilities were not those described in the confirmation of booking through Expedia so we were disappointed. We were given a small room with sloping ceiling, small ensuite(expected large) and standard bed(king sized bed was detailed in confirmation). TV reception was limited and poor and toiletries such as shampoo and shower gel had to be requested.
However, lady who ran hotel was very pleasant and breakfast good.
This is a lovely small(ish) hotel if you fancy a weekend in the borders! The owner is very helpful and willing to offer advise for things to do in the area etc. Our room was very nice - comfy double bed etc. Plus a GOOD shower! (This is always important to me!) Nice breakfast in the morning too :) You can also choose to eat there in the evenings - we did this one evening and it was the nicest meal I had over the 3 nights we stayed for. I am a veggie, and although there were no options as such on the menu, I was able to talk to the chef who was more than happy to make me something and this meant I got to choose what I wanted!
I would definitely go back, especially to see Oscar and Lily (the two dogs which belong to the hotel owner!)
Susan (and dogs!) very welcoming, thoughtful and kind. A very relaxing stay. Very comfortable bed, great shower, lovely room and delicious meals. Looking forward to staying there again soon!

Very quite location
Hotel OK but, after a day driving around the county it would have been nice to go into bar & unwind with a drink late afternoon but bar didn't open until 6pm (even for residents). Hotel was only place in village to get something to eat at night and was limited in it's selection. OK for a couple of days but would be struggling after that to vary your choice. Also thought it was overpriced with it's meal prices for where it was and what was on offer.
This is a very conveniently located hotel which we have visited before. The hotel is genuinely dog friendly and the owner Sue is very welcoming towards guests and pets.
A very smart , pleasent rural hotel. Owner & staff ensure a confortable friendly stay.Food & accommodation excellent & reasonably priced. Could not fault any aspect of my stay.
