The best area to stay in Nefta is generally within or very close to the historic core, often referred to as the El Hamma quarter, which provides the most authentic and convenient experience for travellers. This quarter is Nefta's oldest part, characterised by its traditional architecture, narrow alleyways, and mud-brick buildings. It's built around the oasis, offering a unique landscape of palm groves and natural springs. The Great Mosque of Nefta and the Sidi Bouhlel Mausoleum are prominent landmarks within this area. While not a bustling metropolis, the historic core is where you'll find the most character and local life.Couples looking for a peaceful and unique retreat will find the hotels and guesthouses located within the El Hamma quarter particularly appealing. These accommodations often replicate the traditional architectural style and are typically situated near the oasis, offering serene views and a sense of seclusion. It's an ideal base for exploring the local culture, enjoying quiet walks through the palm groves, and experiencing the desert landscape. For those interested in exploring the wider desert region, staying on the outskirts of the El Hamma quarter, especially along the roads leading out of town towards the desert, can be a practical choice. These locations might offer easier access for excursions into the Sahara, such as dune bashing or camel treks, while still being a short distance from Nefta's historic attractions.
