The rooms were clean and tidy and had a good selection of teas and coffees. They weren't cleaned during our stay but that wasn't an issue for such a short stay - extra supplies including towels were available as needed. There was off-road parking behind, and the one meal we had in the restaurant was enjoyed by all. Staff were all friendly, and the breakfast choices were all good. Both the evening meal and the breakfast were excellent. We can't see what some of the other reviewers found wrong with the breakfast. It was freshly cooked to order, delivered by a very pleasant young lady. All the staff we encountered were equally so. Twin rooms cramped and right on the top floor, accessible only via several flights of rather steep stairs. There is no lift. The beds however are very comfortable. Small Shower cubicle with plentiful hot water. Unfortunately the temperature control was stuck solid on hot There are no evening meals on Mondays and Tuesdays. Breakfast menu very limited, Full English, Eggs Benedict, Toast or American Pancakes with Maple syrup. No cereal or fruit, just orange juice, tea or coffee. The Breakfast lady was very pleasant and very helpful with her local knowledge. There was quite a lot of noise from the street below early in the morning and the church bells were regular throughout the night. The breakfast was a good amount but lukewarm spolt the vibe. We had to sit woth coats on. They couldnt locate key and was advised they would look for this and deal with it. No update provided. On checkout nobody about to speak to. Radiator still cold room cold. Dined in restaurant. I chose venison casserole however was then told they didnt have the vegetables as advertised and it would come with peas. I had also ordered a side order of roasted brocolli with garlic. When the 'casserole" arrived. It consisted of portion of mash, half a plate of peas and 3 minute pieces of venison. I wouldnt call that a casserole... the brocolli arrived cold and very raw. I had to ask for it to be heated up. The only hot thing served was the mash the other things very tepid. I ordered eggs benedict for breakfast the sauce was not the required temperature. My husband was given toast on his full english but no butter provided. Nobody came back to ask if everything was okay so couldnt mention about lack of butter or the issue with the hollondaise. Having been hingry grom the previous evening poor meal I ate some of the breakfast however did not enjoy it. On leaving nobody around except ceaner so asked who to complain to. Typical country hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food (dinner and breakfast) was nicely served but the fryer is overused, so wouldn't excite Michelin man. The bedroom was clean and well decorated, the bed very comfortable and quiet although the windows wouldn't open. Shown to room by barman but offered no help with bags. I’m 70 years of age and 5 flights of stairs was a struggle. Asked for another room but was told hotel was full. Decided to stay as was only one night. I think when people are getting booked into rooms up 5 flights of stairs it may be an idea to check for any mobility issues with not offering lift facility.
