Great Location
The sunsets over the lake are amazing, one of the best in the area. Short walk to the Fitz. Clean, comfy beds, and well maintained. Loved the fresh flowers, and local treats when we arrived. Our group has stayed here annually for 7 years, and hope to continue for many more.

Perfect get away with family
Great 4 days with siblings and spouses. We all loved this historic home and Eagle River. We enjoyed being so close to Lake Superior and watching as it changed from calm to white capped. We also loved Monks trail, Brockway mountain drive and numerous waterfalls. The Big House had everything for a perfect gathering. The host was very helpful and responded quickly to a few questions. Very thankful that we found this house!

Perfect Location
This house was the perfect location for our family trip, right in the middle of all of our activities. The boys were able to enjoy fishing right outside the door and just a walk to the lake. The historic home was very clean and the kitchen was graciously stocked with everything you could possibly need to cook.

Awesome family weekend
We stayed here to enjoy the snow! We had 6 adults and 3 kids 12, 15 & 18. We had so much room here! The large mudroom was especially helpful to store & dry all our winter outdoor gear. The kitchen is really big and has everything you need and more. Lots of dishes and all the pots/pans we needed. There was still plenty of room to store the food we brought too. The beds were very comfortable and it was nice to have a bathroom for every bedroom. We ate dinner one night at Fitz's, was an easy walk, even in the snow. Highly recommend the food and the private room dining. There is a deer feeding park in town so be careful driving as there are a lot of deer wandering around town. We also enjoyed cross country skiing and snow shoeing at Kewenaw Mountain lodge in Copper Harbor and the kids love skiing at Mount Bohemia, each of those is about a 30min drive. The owner gave us all the information we needed for the house and was very prompt in answering questions. We would definitely stay here again!

Clean, well equipped & cheerful
We really enjoyed staying at the big house. Even though it was a rainy weekend, we felt warm & cozy inside. There was plenty of room to spread out as we had 3 generations & cooking all together in the well equipped kitchen was fun for us all. We especially loved the fresh flowers, cheerful artwork, comfortable furniture & uniqueness of this home.

Always lovely!
This is the third time we have stayed in this house. It is always really clean and welcoming upon our arrival. Jan is great to work with and the house is fully stocked with everything we could need. We cook a lot of our meals in and the kitchen is great, overall with a lot of room for the group to get together or spread out as needed. Bedrooms are all very comfortable and stocked with plenty of towels. Eagle River is perfect for watching the amazing Sunsets over Lake Superior each night. Thanks again for another great year!

The BEST House!!
We loved this house!!! There were 4 adults and 6 teenagers. There were plenty of beds and bathrooms. The walk to Lake Superior is short. I would give the house 10 stars, if I could. It was amazing.

UP ski vacation
The Big House is an awesome place to stay as every bedroom has its own bathroom. The kitchen is very well appointed with pots, pans, dishes or just about any item needed for any length of stay. The large mud room in the back is the cherry on top as there is plenty of room for a large group of snow enthusiasts to hang their gear to dry.

First Class Snowmobile Retreat
Bring your sleds, snowmobiling gear, and groceries because everything else is provided. The mud room isn’t pictured but was an amazing surprise. Perfect place to make dinner and unwind after a long day on the trails.

Spacious snowy getaway!
This house was so spacious for a group of friends and family with all their snowboard gear. We especially loved the drying room to keep our gear warm and dry all night before we had to use it again the next day. This place was conveniently located a short and beautiful drive to Mount Bohemia. We also especially loved the big kitchen, easy to make dinners and also socialize with people around the island!

A Beautiful Week in October
This property was perfect for our group, friends who enjoyed the color the Keweenaw has to offer in October. We had wonderful meals in local restaurants, invigorating hikes on wonderful and challenging wooded trails, and spirited games with friends after dark. We loved the kitchen, living spaces, and bedrooms. Thanks for the games and books in the house. Oh, and the flowers in the window boxes and Lake Superior could not be beat!

A True Gem

Just perfect!
The Big House was absolutely perfect for a week of unwinding! The house is gorgeous and comfortable, the beach is steps away with an amazing shore with so many different rocks - it's the perfect location to explore the UP! Our teens loved the waterfall and exploring the river and we loved that the town is quiet and not too touristy. Thanks for the amazing stay!

Big House 2/21 Review
We had a group of seven adults for a ski weekend. Everything was clean and we had great communication with property manager. Comments from other guests include: sheets on beds were very comfortable, Viking range/stove was nice, plenty of dishes/cookware, house was in very good condition and has a lot of character. The arrival gift and flowers were a nice touch as well! We would stay here again. Thank you!

Incredible Eagle River Stay
This was our second time staying at the Big House this year. The home is so well appointed, the kitchen is well equipped To cook some serious food and was perfect for our adult weekend this time, and also wonderful for our trip a few weeks ago with five small kiddos! Comfortable, spotless, fresh flowers in every room, treats to enjoy for breakfast, literally no detail missed. Jan does an absolutely wonderful job. We can’t wait to come back.

We loved staying at the Big Blue House! We loved the history of the place, it would be neat to know more about its history! The house was immaculate and had every amenity imaginable not to mention the stunning location. We were able to take advantage of all the area has to offer, such as the mine tour, hiking, beach combing and shopping of course. The property manager was friendly and very accomodating. We would absolutely come back to this beautiful place.

The group had a wonderful time and the big house was great,plenty of character. It was equipped with everything you could possibly need including an excellent view of the water. The snowmobile trail was very close and the parking arrangement was very accommodating with a parking lot for truck and trailer very close.Loved it and will come back , Virginia was awesome , very easy to work with !! UP ski vacation
The Big House is an AWESOME place to stay. Excellent accommodations, excellent views of Lake Superior and very well appointed. The home is very spacious and each bedroom has its own bathroom.....very convenient. The hidden gem is the large “mud room” adjacent to the kitchen and rear entry. There is enough storage cubbies and coat hooks for a family of 10! Huge bonus for those choosing to rent during ski season. Eagle River is an easy drive from Houghton and works well as a central hub for those who prefer extreme back country skiing at Mt Bohemia vs groomed runs at Mt Ripley. We highly recommend The Big House and we will definitely be back!

Perfect spot for few or many
The Big House is just that plus more. Spacious, simple, complete and efficient best describe this amazing house. The kitchen is a perfect gathering spot while cooking in the well stocked kitchen with friends and family. The sleeping quarters are clean, crisp and very comfortable from mattress to linens and fresh flowers on the dresser. The living/family rooms are comfortable and arranged for game playing, visiting and watching media. And on top it all, a short walk to the beach and local barbecue joint before watching the sunset make it just about perfect.

“Superior” Relaxation
Our children and grandchildren enjoyed every minute of our stay. The “Big House” was comfortable, clean, aesthetic, with lots of extras to make your stay special. As history lovers, staying in an 1840’s hotel was the perfect way to begin investigating the area. We swam, searched for ageates and yooperlites, hiked, visited museums, mines and watched every gorgeous sunset. Our only regret is we didn’t have another week to explore. We have had several family vacations but staying in the “Big House” in the Keweenaw peninsula tops them all. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home.

This is a great vacation rental.
The house was beautiful. We had a large group of family up for MTU graduation. The house was laid out nicely with enough room for everyone to enjoy. The kitchen was fabulous and had room for everyone to eat together. The view of the lake was beautiful. We would definitely stay again.

It's simply a great property!!
The Big House is a wonderful destination for family and friends to enjoy a stay at while in the Keweenaw, besides all the room for the group to spread out also included are the amenities that truly exceed any expectations for a family spot in the UP! From the changing room with a multitude of hooks and bins to store outdoor gear in to the kitchen equipped with everything a cook would need to prepare a gourmet meal to the burr grinder to allow a barista to make the finest caffeine charged beverage to start the day, it is all here. Of course the item that truly makes a vacation restful is the bedding, and the bedding here rivals that of the finest hotels. What really tops off the Big House is the host, Jan is attentive and available for her guests.
