I was surprised check in was at 4pm instead of 3. Check in was at another property. The accommodation itself was lovely. It has the wood smell that I like very much. Although it is split into two units, each room has its own digital lock. The only downside is that because it is an old house, the sound proof is not done well. I could hear my next door neighbour quite clearly.

Our stay at Shiomachi Roya in Tomonoura was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. I was impressed by the renovations done to turn this old merchant house into an inn. I liked the design and decor. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Because this particular house (Roya) has only 4 rooms to stay in, the staff are located at another sister inn literally just around the corner, one minute away. We used this as a jumping off point to check Naoshima and Teshima. It was quite new, rooms were clean and staff were very helpful and accomodating regarsing atoring our bicycles.
