Bathrooms let the room down slightly, small and some maintenance issues I.e. towel rail almost coming off the wall and unstable shampoo dispenser. Room service was a greay luxury and nice to have free parking, although could do with better signage, we struggled to find initially- the carpark entrance is literally next to the front entrance of the hotel, you can't see it until you are right in front of it."

The pub stuff are phenomenal, excellent and quick service with perfectly made cocktails. The breakfast/dining room is beautiful. The food is fresh, served quickly and the host and serving staff are kind and friendly. I cannot say enough good things about the ladies at reception. They were so helpful with my package deliveries trying to get my son set up at uni. They laughed along with me at the ridiculous packaging I would receive and were so gracious, thoughtful and helpful. The owners of this hotel and their guests are incredibly lucky to have such amazing staff to look after them. With more trips to Colchester coming, this will be my choice every time. I look forward to their welcoming smiles and a perfectly made espresso martini! Thank you so much for turning a difficult and stressful trip into a fantastic experience. Truly one of a kind!"

"Booked online at short notice. I was happy with my stay-I’d certainly do it again. Whilst no oil painting from the outside, inside is a different kettle of fish. Reception was speedily done, and welcoming. Room sparsely but practically furnished with everything fully functional. Very generous supply of tea/coffee. Bathroom and towels very acceptable, as was the nice touch of Scottish Soap consumables. The bed linen and duvet were immaculate and the bed itself very well suited to sleep, not springy or saggy. Bar was cosy and lively. The restaurant was serene/calm…very nicely laid out with pristine table cloths and table lamps of a decently small but well lit size. You could date a date here, or your wife, or either. The waiting staff.. absolutely lovely.. (thanks T). I ordered a steak which came exactly as ordered with very nice home made chips. Felt the meal and wine was very acceptable indeed. For a cost effective business stay, without frills and tassels, but with good food and bed, it sure as hell gets my recommendation."
