About this property
Luxury Cottage with spectacular rural views, private garden, sunroom and terrace
Originally three miners cottages, Acacia boasts three good-sized double bedrooms upstairs. The master has a king bed and ensuite shower room. Also upstairs there is a double bedroom and a twin bedroom. Downstairs there is a study/bedroom with a small double bed plus a large desk with office-chair seating for two people. There is also a modern kitchen with gas range, large dining room, sitting room and large sunroom. Under-floor heating and wood burner make the cottage delightfully snug in winter. Outside is a large terrace with spectacular views. Local walks include the Peak District rail trail, Black Rocks and across the valley to Wirksworth. The facilities include good phone signal and strong wi-fi, and a smart flat screen tv
In common with many Peak District cottages, there is no designated parking. However there is free parking available in the street and a small (free) council carpark very close by. A footpath from outside the front door leads into Wirksworth across the fields.

I went with five men friends, a group that has met since around 1980, for two nights then completed the last three nights with my wife. The property was excellent for both purposes. The location is splendid starting with the views from terrace and windows. The inside is warm, tasteful and practical. An excellent conversion of an old property while maintaining its character.

Lovely location and amazing views.
We had a really lovely family holiday in Wirksworth and the cottage was a great base for extended family with fabulous views. However for a cottage advertised as luxury, there is a little updating required. Conservatory furniture is quite marked, doors stick, the bathrooms could do with a deep clean and pans in the kitchen could do with updating. We requested the stair gate too and it would have been helpful to know that the one available was for the bottom of the stairs not the top. Access to the property is through a gate shared with a neighbour, which caused no problem, but wasn't mentioned. With all this said, it provided a good central spot for our holiday, and we were able to explore a lot of the surrounding area.

Lovely area, good louse, tired interiors
This house is great for a big family - rooms plenty big enough and the kitchen-diner and the outside patio was particularly good. It’s possibly much better to stay in during the summer months rather than November when we visited.
Not good were: a) the interior furnishings and b) the response from the housekeeper when we needed help.
Interior furnishings were dated - probably all installed 20 years ago. The bedding was old and really poor - especially in the twin bedroom, and the towels had seen better days.
It was such a pity, as, with a little investment - eg new towels and white cotton bedding - this could have been so much better.
On arrival, the house was dark and extremely cold - very unwelcoming. The downstairs lights were working but upstairs, we couldn’t switch anything on. We finally found the boiler cupboard and electricity box and discovered that a switch had tripped, so we finally got light upstairs. The heating had also not switched on at all so we had to do that manually, despite being asked not to fiddle with the controls in the house instructions.
We rang the House keeper’s number and the lady’s husband answered and said she would get back to us as a matter of urgency. We then never heard from her all weekend! However, after an hour or so, we had light and heat, so didn’t need her. I feel that for future visits, the heating and lights should be checked ON THE DAY of arrival to avoid our awful first few hours. It really was very disappointing.
The views are stunning … it is well equipped with comfy beds too . Very quiet but not too far from local towns and attractions

Lovely break
Absolutely brilliant location to get away was wonderful. Only thing wrong was house keeper would not respond to our calls. House needs attention. But overall when items have been repaired it will be 5star again
Breath taking views, exceptional clean. Spent most of our time in the sun room, watching the birds and squirrels! Has everything you need, ate out in the evening, plenty of great places to eat. Beds comfortable, plenty of hot water, definitely stay again, plenty of room for 6 adults and 2 babies 😊
Acacia cottages is a bright and spacious property, well placed to access many attractions in the Peak District. The views from the patio are stunning and our family party of 6 adults particularly enjoyed use of the bright sun room when the weather was less kind. We enjoyed having close access to the High Peak railway cycle path and walks from the door or just a short car ride away.
This is a delightful, well-appointed cottage. There are lovely views from the sun room and terrace. The kitchen is well equipped and the beds are comfortable. We highly recommend it.
The accommodation suited our needs 100%. Well equipped kitchen/dining area, comfortable beds and large conservatory with fabulous views. Having a toddler with us meant we were in the property every evening, but it was so relaxing to be able to either sit in the conservatory or on the paved patio. Would definitely recommend.
Superb property, we’ll definitely return. Plenty of space and very comfortable. Thank you
Communication with the property owner was excellent. We had no communication with a property manager
There were six of us staying in this property. The house itself is lovely and in a perfect location to enjoy the lovely views. A good walk into Wirksworth which has some lovely small shops. Matlock is a short drive, my parents (pensioners) caught the bus from the bottom of the road so the remaining 4 of us could take one car. They said the service bus, every half hour, was excellent. The house had plenty of room and the conservatory and patio area were fabulous. Just a couple of things it seems the housekeeper forgot was the foil in the grill pan and on one of the baking trays were used and had not been changed or removed and there was still ice-cream and frozen chips from the previous guests left in the freezer. Perhaps a little welcome tray with some milk (even if it was UHT), would have been good so we could have a cuppa when we had arrived after our journey. Tea and coffee was available but no milk. We had a lovely weekend and would recommend staying at this house
Arrival detail sent by the owners was very accurate and helpful. Great location with easy access to the Peak District. The house was spotlessly clean and in a secluded spot with spectacular views. Lovely.
Really good house in a nice location with fantastic views. Terrace is a fantastic place to enjoy the scenery. The house is well laid out and equipped, with plenty of room. The sun room is an especial bonus. Parking is interesting but we usually found somewhere in one of the suggested locations.
Hesitate to give a glowing review as it will booked up before we can visit again. Acacia Cottage was truely a wonderful experience from the cleanliness to the amenities provided to the views and the overall layout. If there was a need to bring a person with limited mobility, the access and downstairs bedroom provide an opportunity. Communication with our host Sue and the caretaker was great.
Thank you for hosting our family.
