The canteen features 13’ ceilings and large rolling metal and glass doors which help monitor light and air flow … which also, when opened, creates an open air atmosphere of “camping out”. The Canteen sleeps 2 on a very comfortable fold out sofa. High quality bedding is stored for easy access when you decide to “turn in” for the night. An Isokern Fireplace adds to your comfort on chilly Marfa nights and mornings. The complete kitchen is equipped with a gas cooktop, electric stove, Fiestaware dishes, cooking utensils, and coffee maker. There is a small powder room and just off this room a fabulous sexy outdoor shower with hot and cold running water. Note: this outdoor shower is the only shower. We experienced snow during our trip and the host was kind enough to offer to move our stay to a later date. It is quiet, and feels secluded, although is easily walkable into town for all your art galleries, shops, eateries, coffee, etc. The grounds of the property are beautiful, with multiple areas for relaxing, grilling, reading, and includes a patio area with a fire-pit. The house includes a great little kitchen with small fridge, gas stove/oven, cutting/prepping areas, coffee/espresso maker, and a large custom sink. Plenty of flatware, silverware, utensils, cups/glasses. We went to the grocery store in town (Lowes and Get Go) and did lots of cooking at the house. The bathroom, while fantastic, is separate from the house- so you have to walk out the door and immediately enter into the bathroom. Nonetheless, everything is delightfully artistic, with custom touches everywhere. Great outdoor shower, which has plenty of privacy and coverage from view. We met the owner, Robert, who is amazing! He is friendly and kind. We would definitely stay here again, and highly recommend this place for anyone new or familiar to Marfa. It clearly states that the bed is a futon made out to your only bed. It is small but cozy with the fireplace nearby. Casita is located right next to a busy road and the train tracks close by. Because we don't live in the city,, we are not use to hearing traffic/trains while sleeping. Bring a white noise machine or app if you are a light sleeper. Also we were there when it was windy so it made it challenging to take an outdoor shower with the shower curtain flying around. The pictures just don’t it justice. Robert’s sense of style and eye for design are unmatched and he’s made the Canteen unbelievably comfortable. When you pull in and walk around front, you’re greeted by birds, bunnies, butterflies, bees and even those little lizards that do the push-ups. When you walk in you’ll immediately notice how clean, cool and cozy it is. You will want for nothing, except maybe an extra day when you check out. If you’re lucky, it’ll rain while you’re there. “Who says that”, you ask? First off, whoever excavated and graded the property is a landscaping savant. Water from the higher elevations is channeled to a 15ft area of rocks and stone that, for about the next 20-30 mins. after the rain, becomes your private zen waterfall/babbling brook with two tiny streams that break off to the left and right of the Canteen.
