Great Place to Flop
Manaus is not a thriving metropolis with great sites to visit. For us, it was the staging area for our cruise on the river. Therefore, I regret I did not select GoInn when we arrived. GoInn is the perfect place to flop coming and going. I was able to print out my boarding passes with help from the front desk. The air con was perfect. The restaurant food is not all that great. But I recommend this place for anyone going to Manaus to do something other than visit the city.

We had a great stay. The rooms are nice and clean. This historic hotel is a must for everybody visiting Manaus. The pool is nice and the food is great. The mini zoo is interesting, although the habitats for the animals are sad (small bare cages). Do not go to the hotel gift shop, you will find everything 10 times cheaper at the Mercado Adolfo Lisboa.

Old hotel. I understand the 'old style' but it doesn't mean it should smell like mold everywhere. When I got to my room the AC wasn't on which made the smell even worst. There were no waters at the mini-bar. Old phone didn't have a direct line to the front desk. I actually had to go to the front desk to ask simple questions

Resort with potential.
The hotel is very spacious and with some attention and detailing could be a great resort. The rooms look a bit bare and we had a problem with the telephone and had to change the rooms. There is no mirror in the room. However there is a very nice zoo and play area for kids. The gardens need attention as well. Staff is helpful.

Bad Smell in the Room
The breakfast was delicious, and the front desk service was very good. The local area was nice. The mini zoo was good. The principal problem was that the room and hotel had a strong, humid smell that caught on to all our clothing. The hotel needs to be remodeled urgently in order to get rid of that smell.

Hotel with the Past
There were many WiFi connection but none of them working. Not in the room, not in the hall way. It did work in the reception area. There was no intercom that could connect to the front desk. (No phones). It took more than 5 minutes walk from my room to the reception. The hotel has a very pretty structure but facilities were not kept up with the day. For example, We had a TV that was 30 years old and not working in our room.

Close to the beach!
The good thing about this hotel , it was that was close to the beach. The not so great things were the phone service was brokendown and they had a very bad internete service in the room. They were not as close as we thought they would be to shopping and restaurants.

Indifferent staff,poor maintenance,disappointment
The front desk seemed bothered to check me in with the reservation that I made through Orbitz. The elevators were out of service so we took the stairs, with our bags, to the third floor. Once in the room, the a/c was warm at best and when opening the curtains to let some light in, the amount of mold both on the back of the drapes and all over the window frame was scary. In the bathroom, the mirror was disclored, the hot / cold sink faucet had been replced with a cold water only faucet, the spring loaded type that you might find in a rest stop bathroom, which springs back up after a few seconds of running water. In the shower, the hot water faucet handle fell off immediately upon being touched. The wifi was nearly non-existent, if you need it for anything that is time sensitive, don’t even think of staying here. Overall a terrible experience, we did not end up staying the night, and I’m glad because I would not want to spend an entire night breathing in tha mold. They may need to consider shutting half of this huge property down and focusing attention to detail and resources on less rooms, but having a better product.

Has to be seen to be believed
. The resort itself is a wonder—when built in 1976 it was presumably the only hotel of its stature for miles around, and riverfront land was probably cheap. It was done on a grand scale—609 rooms ranging from luxurious to economy, a grand three-story lobby and bar area, an extensive pools area with waterfalls and fountains, water features stocked with fish and turtles, five tennis courts, basketball court, large two-story gymnasium as well as outdoor exercise equipment, archery, soccer, bicycles, volleyball, extensive walking paths, its own shopping center, taxi station, dock, and tour office, and last but not least a menagerie of Amazonian mammals and birds, from a jaguar and capybara on down to monkeys and macaws. With all kinds of competition now on hand, the Tropical apparently cannot now begin to keep up with maintenance. When we were there, (it was admittedly off-season), whole wings were unoccupied, and many features were obviously unused and/or out of service, and looked long neglected. The menagerie carries on, with animals never seen at Como Park or the Minnesota Zoo, and what was being maintained was still top-drawer. The décor is classic: lots of dark wood and art in the corridors, and the food served at the complimentary breakfasts and in the restaurant (there are four food-service areas, though only two were operating) was plentiful, varied, and fresh. We took five tours with the in-house tour service over the course of our stay, and all were impressive if rathe

Two words: Stay Away
This hotel is simply the worst place I have ever stayed. The lobby is depressing. The room was clammy and uncomfortable. The blanket on the bed stank of stale sweat. The maid did not clean the bathroom or replace the towels after the first night, lunch at the only remaining open restaurant was tasteless and my sandwich was made with stale bread. The breakfast buffet was the only saving grace. Stay away from this terrible place.

Beautiful property and location in need of care.
The hotel is a beautiful property with lots to offer. You can see it was built to be classic and elegant. In a way it is still is, but the facilities need repair and in most cases a good cleaning. The roons were comfortable and clean. The crew is very attentive and cordial, but to be called a resort it lacks services. Food, drinks, entertainment are not comparable to a similar property elsewhere.

Old and Needs Maintenance
I was planning to stay 2 nights but ended up staying just 1 because I got termites in my pillows and bed sheets....They moved my to a diff room which was better but not hot water in any of them. I was speaking with another guest and there was a really bad smell like mold or something similar due to the high humidity of the area. This hotel hast a 5 starts hotel classification but this is clearly overrated. Looks like it used to be a very good hotel but now is not well maintained. If you plan to go to Manaus try a different hotel.

Not the best place to stay
This hotel is an aging one-time star, now in faded glory. It is very far from all city attractions and has little to compensate for the distance. Even the river bank is not easily accessible even though it is right by the river. Food was terrible and there are no options to eat nearby. We had to take a cab every time we wanted a meal. The hotel is built in a grand style with over-spacious rooms and corridors, totally out of touch with modern needs. Our room was 600 m from the reception desk, an onerous distance to walk with two young children who have fallen asleep at the end of the day. The staff were helpful but their kindness does not compensate fully for the structural problems of the hotel.

As others have noted, there is a smell of damp about the place. It looks very dated and the rooms are in need of a makeover. Those long dark corridors are not very attractive. Grounds are nice though and the staff friendly and helpful. Food was good. Get a taxi from the airport as it will be much cheaper than a car booked through the hotel.

Could be great but needs many changes
This hotel has great potential but needs many changes. The food options are the worst anywhere. Breakfast and lunch in the 1 open restaurant are buffet only. The bar and pool have a large menu but only 4 items were available.Dinner menu had only 4 choices and The food we did get was terrible ( food at the hotel right next door was great). The pool area and pool were very very old and in need of major updating. The bar had very limited liquor choices and no wine anywhere in the hotel. In the room they had no directions for the phone our room was probably one quarter mile from the front desk and our tv did not work so I had to walk to the front desk for help. No paper pen or local help papers to be found. In the bathroom we had two bath towels and no face or wash clothes and no glass or paper cups.

Worst experience ever!
This hotel should be shut down. My mini vacation became shorter. We change room 3 times. Mold and dust every room. I checkin Friday night (12/09) around 10pm. I came from Miami to know the Amazon, the suggest was been in that "rustic" 4 stars resort. Wrong! Is not rustic is old, dutty and uncomfortable!!! Finally at 2am we got a "remodeling" room. That's no blanket and smells!!! I had not to do how can I go to another hotel at this time. I gave a chance. On the next day (Saturday 12/10) we try the famous breakfast omg no way the same knife they cut the onion they cut the fruits. Come on I was In Brazil and the fruit wasn't good? Ok.. I paid for 2 nights already so let be... I went out to know the river... when we come back that no towels in the room the toilet was clogged. So... no way I came back Saturday to Miami instead Sunday. So I haven't luck to know the Amazonia this time. My welcome was terrible and frustaded. I stay 24h on the city because the all the stress at this discusting hotel. Please if you going to Manaus avoid this hotel.

The hotel itself is large, which gives you a lot to do. The staff is very friendly and attentive throughout the hotel. The food is very good and fresh, and for the price, I would highly recommend trying it. Our room itself, was good in size, queen size bed. However, the room had a bad odor, smelled like a wet basement. The bed only had one sheet over the mattress and pillows didn't seem fresh.

Nice hotel but close to nowhere
Hotel should have some shuttle service to downtown, like two or three times per day. The taxi service is expensive, around 50 dollars round trip, too much for routine visits. The pool restaurant is closed, all they have is a buiffet at the coffee shop or room service.

Don't know that I would stay again.
The hotel itself look great but my god is it huge. We had to walk about 10 minutes to get to our room and about same distance to get to the restaurants in the hotel. The food is only served during a certain time so when we wanted to eat at 5pm we were unable to because the restaurant there did not open until 7 so we were angry and hungry. Not only that but when I arrived I had to speak to 4 different people for them to understand that I had made the reservation for 3 single beds and they kept giving me a room with ONE queen bed. They speak english there but somehow are unable to understand it. Other than that its a good 15 min walking distance to the beach where they sell food and they have a lot of amenities and a nice small pool. Definitely would not stay there again though...

Love the Wooded Grounds Nearby
My son and I are birders and we got two dozen new species of birds while at the Tropican Manaus. The nearby woods are productive for birding and the trees and fruits lure the parrots and parakeets and toucans in. We spent hours around the hotel and enjoyed the quiet, tranquil setting. We were here in mid-July and I will go back given the chance. Apart from the outdoors, the hotel made arrangements for our daily tours to see the confluence of the two rivers and then the trip to feed the dolphins. Everything went as planned. The breakfast buffet was more than sufficient and the service was always friendly. The one thing I might advise anyone is to go lightly on the towels and not use them frivolously. Sometimes new towels were not available until late afternoon.

Beautiful architecture. Bad service. Outdated.
The construction is beautiful, in and outside. Hotel belongs to a bankrupt mass of assets awaiting judicial decision and until everything is resolved, the hotel cannot undergo the very much needed reformation. Everything is outdated. TV, bed, closets, bathroom. To make things worse, staff is pooly trained and lack minimum refinement to deal with the public. Has giant potential to be a great hotel. The present administration should pass it on to Marriot or Hilton or Sheraton, something like that.

Great time, great location!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Tropical Ecoresort! Great location, rooms (Noble Suite) very big, especially for our great rate! Although this resort is not as new as some other's we have visited, this did not diminish from our experience. Food was wonderful, service was great! The staff is very kind and very helpful. The beds are a bit stiff, so be prepared for a more hard mattress to sleep on. We liked being close to the city and a close boat ride to many of the Amazon attractions. The pool and the Kid's Club were a favorite of our kids (ages 9, 7, and 4) and very convenient and enjoyable for the parents too! Many parts are under construction, but again, did not diminish from our stay. We were very busy outside of the hotel during the day for excursions. Overall, this hotel is a great place to stay when in Manaus!

Living on past glory
Sadly this hotel was disappointing in many ways. It is very large and previously a grand hotel, and could be (and probably was) a stunning hotel, but clearly in need of much TLC and investment from the owners. The food we were eventually served was good, but the food and beverage outlets dare dated, and most were closed! There is nothing within walking distance other than the neighboring hotel. Breakfast was good, dinner was very disappointing - service incredibly slow and non-attentive. Rooms are functional, large, and in good decor, however the humidity/damp smell is overpowering and clothes smelt upon return home. Some staff spoke very good English... some were asleep... seriously...

Good comfortable place to relax after Jungle
My wife and I decided to stay here for the final two days we had in Manaus (upon returning from 3 nights in the Jungle - Iguana Tours). The resort was extremely big and luxurious and would be a good place just to chill (it has a private beach on the river, a zoo and botanical gardens, tennis courts and many other attractions), however it is far from the city and we had to pay much for cab fare to finish up last minute shopping. One consolation is that it is closer to the Airport than other hotels. When we went, 2 of the 3 restaurants were closed, however the one that was open provided an excellent free breakfast and a good affordable selection of authentic Brazilian food for dinner. This place is so massive, we had to walk 10 minutes to and from our room anytime we wanted to dine or leave the premises or go to the reception. Make sure you ask for a room close to the restaurant, I am confident rooms are always available since the hotel seemed empty (which explains the great nightly rates that were offered online).
