Kalawana
10.0 out of 10, Exceptional, (3 reviews)
"Boulder Garden Hotel is the most beautifull hotel I have ever been to. It is located in the middle of a forest. Except for the rooms, everything is in the outside: the restaurant is located below a huge boulder, the swimming pool is in the middle of rocks. The personel is very friendly and helpfull. The food is very good and relatively cheap (our dinner was 12 USD for two). The hotel is very small: there are only 5 or 6 rooms. So nearly all of it is there for you only. I recomend it very much. "

"A beautiful property nestled in the jungle. The views were amazing and the sounds of the rushing river were super relaxing. The rooms were big and airy. There is no air conditioning but some ceiling fans that do the job perfectly (we were never too hot at night) - the pool with the river view in room 10 was spectacular. We enjoyed the food and the service was really nice and kind. Ashley is a character and brings some personality to the table. It’s very isolated but it’s possible to get a Tuktuk...

Lovely garden where you can sit and enjoy afternoon tea. The staff, especially Sameera, were absolutely excellent- they couldn’t do enough for us. Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Malwala?
The best area to stay in Malwala is generally in a hotel or guesthouse located close to the town centre or along the Ratnapura-Balangoda road for ease of access.

For travellers looking for convenience and a base for exploring, staying near the Malwala town centre is ideal. This area provides easy access to local shops, eateries, and public transport links. While Malwala itself is a smaller town, its central location within the Sabaragamuwa Province makes it a practical hub for visiting nearby attractions.

Couples often appreciate guesthouses or hotels slightly outside the immediate town centre, offering a more tranquil setting. These accommodations, often found along the scenic Ratnapura-Balangoda road, can provide pleasant views of the surrounding countryside and a more relaxed atmosphere.
When is the best time to go to Malwala?
The best time to visit Malwala is during the dry season, which typically runs from December to March, and again from June to September.

During these months, you'll experience less rainfall and plenty of sunshine, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region, especially the waterfalls and tea plantations. The weather is generally warm and pleasant, allowing for comfortable outdoor activities.

Couples looking for a relaxing retreat will appreciate the tranquil conditions during these dry periods. It's great for enjoying scenic walks through lush landscapes or simply unwinding amidst the peaceful surroundings without the interruption of heavy showers.
