The tree seen silhouetted is The Marula Tree and has a history as a source of nutrition dating back to 10,000 years B.C. and it is certainly one of Africa's botanical treasures. 
The multiple uses of the tree, it's bark, leaves, fruit, nut and kernels are legendary. My favorite is when the fruit ripens and drops to the ground and lightly ferments ... the elephants, giraffes, warthogs, and other animals get wasted and the party gets started safari style !

The fruits are a good food source and high in vitamin C. 
The skin can be boiled to make a drink or burnt to be used as a substitute for coffee. 
The wood is soft for carving
The inner bark can be used to make rope and for making dye
They produce small tasty nuts which are rich in protein. 
The Oil is used as a skin cosmetic. 
Their green leaves are eaten to relieve heartburn.
The bark contains antihistamines 

The fruit can also be cooked to produce jam, juices and alcoholic beverages like "Amarula" a delicious South African Cream Liqueur that substrates just fine for coffee creamer any time of the day as far as I'm concerned. It also is used to brew a very tasty, potent South African  moonshine known locally as "Mampoer" after a local Chief who favored it. It is said to make grown men weep.

the Venda people of Southern Africa maintain that bark infusions can be used to determine the gender of an unborn child. If a woman wants a son the male tree is used, and for a daughter, the female tree. If the child of the opposite gender is born, the child is said to be very special as it was able to defy the spirits. 

Oh, and did I mention it sacred.

« Un séjour parfait dans un très bel environnement au bord de la Sabie river (ou il y avait des hippopotames) et au bord du Parc Kruger (a env 15 min de Kruger Gate ou Phabeni gate). Tente de luxe très confortable et bien équipée. Personnel au petit soin et très agréable et serviable. Petits-déjeuners et repas parfaits. L endroit idéal pour visiter le Kruger je recommande. »

« Superbe lodge intimiste (peu de chambres) situé dans les profondeurs du parc Kruger. Aucun dérangement des autres hôtes ce qui permet d’être au cœur de la nature. Belle suite avec terrasse privative nous permettant d’observer les nombreux animaux (éléphants, girafes …) Personnels très attentionnés. L’ensemble des repas (formule all inclusive) était d’une grande qualité (très bon cuisinier) Les deux safaris par jours sont magiques. »

« Leopard Sands Kruger Park does absolutely not live up to the description on their Mariott Bonvoy Hotel website. To start with a positive note, the room is pleasant and was clean. For the rest it was a massive disappointment. The main area of the hotel is soulless. It looks and feels like a 3 star airport hotel anywhere in the world. The outdoor areas are non inviting after dark. Some areas have too much glaring light other areas are dark. The small exterior pool and the area around are not lit...

« Nous revenons d’une semaine au Parc Kruger, entre les réserves privées de Sabie Sands et du parc Kruger lui-même, et le Kruger Shalati surpasse tous les autres lodges, son rapport qualité est absolument imbattable. L’idée d’un lodge dans un train sur un pont est déjà plus qu’originale. Les chambres sont magnifiquement décorées, et la vue sur le fleuve du haut du pont est saisissante. La nourriture est excellente est de loin la meilleure que nous ayons goûtée lors de notre séjour. Le personnel...

« Sejour agréable. Rangers au top. Merci Lucia pour ta bonne humeur durant le séjour. Les personnes qui étaient avec nous pour les safaris étaient très sympathiques. Nous avons eu un problème avec la compagnie aérienne et toute l’équipe était présente pour nous accompagner pour trouver une solution. L’endroit est magique. Nous avons pu voir des lions, buffles et éléphants du lodge »
