This trip was for our 15th anniversary and it was during the Covid-19 pandemic. We booked very last minute with Don at his home. Most homes in the mountains are called cabins even if there pretty standard homes. This is a home. But don’t let that deter you! We had a fantastic vacation away from the crowds. It was a very beautiful very contemporary (not out dated) cabin style decorated home. The home is half way up a Mountainside. It is right off a main rd in Maggie Valley so its easy to find. The road is a narrow very steep rd. But any vehicle could make it up as long as its not icey. We went in December and didn’t have any issues. One day it snowed and we just stayed in until noon to allow any ice if there was to melt on the rd. But the town or whoever actually salted the rd so no ice formed. The owner Don was very easy to get up with and very informative of local info when we needed it. The house has a nice backyard with a firepit two picnic tables and a gas grill. The porch faces the beautiful Soco mountain! Makes for amazing view. The hot tub the is amazing. It was clean and looked brand new. Great furniture and porch swing on the deck as well for morning coffee. The main living area is wide open and has stunning kitchen cabinets, bears everywhere, super comfortable leather furniture, a fireplace, a huge tv & more. Both bedrooms are again cosy and decorated nicely. Very comfortable beds, nice size bathrooms. The location feels very safe. It has a bunch of homes around it. But there off far enough you don’t feel spied on. It feels very private. My only suggestion would be a window covering on the kitchen window and door. Maggie valley looks like a Small ski town. When we went it hadn’t snowed enough for the skiers to be out. So maggie valley was pretty empty though most places were open. It felt like we had the town to ourselves. Keep in mind some shops and restaurants close in winter for season. But most were open. It’s close to Cherokee, Asheville, Gatlinburg, Blueridge Parkway, Smokey Mountain State Park, Bryson City etc. We loved Waynesville for local shops and food. Definitely eat at Brickhouse in Maggie Valley! Lots of Antique shops close by “The Tobacco Barn”! Soco Falls, Biltmore, Breweries, Distilleries, wineries and more in the area. Lots to do. Beautiful mountain views everywhere. Book now!!! Thanks Don so much!
