Stuff is amazing but the property and furniture is pretty old. No minibar and no coffee in the room although there is a kettle. I called ahead to confirm my booking but when I arrived I was told the hotel was overbooked and I have to go to Garisol for two days. Well ok but I also booked yours to pick me up from Windsor so this added extra costs to my trip. When I arrived to original booked room I was pretty disappointed - the toilet was dirty and the bed linens very worn off with someone’s hair on it. I got like 20 nasty mosquito/fly bites overnight and when I asked for help the receptionist told me “you must have opened the window and let them in” which I didn’t do it wasn’t nice to hear but I was given a spray and a gel which helped at least, so I was thankful for that. The pool is nothing like the picture. Pretty and small for full hotel of people. All and all slightly traumatized from this trip since I was tossed around like a hot potato and ended up getting eaten by insect. Better spend more and get better hotel.

We stayed at Hotel Windsor for 7 days during December 2019 and had a wonderful time. The receptionists were very warm, helpful and considerate. The restaurant chef was enthusiastic and made interesting and nice main dishes. The cleaning of room was very good. This very central-located hotel is equipped with its own parking places. We would surly like to come back next time.

The ratings said that this hotel is 4 star but the bedrooms are old and outdated. The bathroom was pretty modern and pleasant enough. However the toiletries provided are very cheap and providing better quality shampoo and soap would drastically improve the experience! The furnishings need to be replaced in the bedroom though because they are old and worn (the old bed, headboard, wardrobe and desk were all made of an old wooden furniture from another age). Everything else including the reception, dining area and foyer were very modern and pleasant to be in. The staff too were very friendly and lovely and helpful.

A nice hotel, but.....
The Windsor was working so well for us until we asked for a key to the safe in the room. We were told that it would cost us 20 Euro per day! Plus a Key deposit! This is unacceptable! We have never paid to use an in-room safe anywhere in the world and, while the Windsor is a very nice hotel, it's not nice enough to demand that. We left our 'stuff' in the rental car that we parked next to the entrance to Reception (Front Desk) where it would be seen by the receptionist. The complimentary breakfast was about standard fare. The hot choices were, at best, luke-warm and the the cold choices were good. We reported that the TV in our room had dropped some English-speaking channels. Four days later, when we checked-out, nothing had been done, nor had the staff got back to us. Twice, we went to the Pool Bar on the roof to get a snack. The bar was open but no-one was there. There are no power outlets on the desk or the bedside tables. The only outlets are between the desk and the Mini-Bar but this was taken up by the Mini-Bar, TV and Table Lamps. The others are on the walls under the bedside tables requiring you to get on your knees and grovel to get a plug into the wall outlet. Surprisingly, there is no Tea/Coffee making facility in the room.

Very limited parking
If you are specifically looking for somewhere with parking, as we were, this is not the hotel for you. There are 3 spaces in total which is not enough, even for a small hotel.

great location/helpful and friendly staff
My experience with the hotel was very good. I stayed there 8 days and loved the fact that I was in the centre of Funchal. The reception staff was very lovely and helped me organising different tours where I was picked up from the hotel and brought back. The tours were great. I had an accident and hurt myself in the room the first aide person arrived straight away after I called reception. Unfortunately the injury was worse than I liked and I lost lots of blood the hotel manager and the cleaning ladies all were all there to help. They all were worried about the blood loss and did their utmost best to help me. After my return from the A&E the reception lady has checked on how I was doing. They were really great with helping to find the clinic to do further checks on my wound and stitches. I would recommend the hotel for his great location and great team.

Too hot for a night's sleep
Single night stay before moving on to another resort on the island - thankfully! We were given a room on the top floor which was painfully hot. Two fans were simply not enough to cool a room which was probably in excess of 30 degrees celsius overnight. I have never had such an uncomfortable night's sleep.

Excellent location, friendly staff, basic room
my wife and I stayed for a week and found the hotel exactly as others had described so we were not disappointed. the room was very clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic (no tea or coffee making) and you have to rent the fridge but the cost is minimal. WiFi is expensive so we didn't bother as it's readily available around Funchal and at most restaurants. The bath was too small to be used as such and the space would have been better used as a proper shower. Breakfast was continental and very limited but what they had was not unpleasant. We booked chiefly for the location and it was perfect - 10 min walk to marina, old town, cable car - perfect. we also had a car which we could park for free at the hotel - no problems at all with about 20 spaces.

Nice hotel, great location!
Spent a week here on vacation and had a pleasant stay. The room was clean and a little quirky (although the furnishings were a little dated). The rooftop pool is small, but ideal for cooling off after a bit day and the Terrance has a good view up to the mountains and over the city. It is very central in Funchal being only a few minutes walk from the marina, cathedral, market and old town. There are a good number of parking places for somewhere so central, but you need to be good at manouvering to get into some of them. Also the hotel staff ask for you to leave your car keys at reception (as cars are sometimes parked blocking other people) - not a big problem, but slightly strange. Breakfast was a little basic and the staff were slightly abrupt at times.

Good position for centre of Funnchal.
The hotel is in a very good location for the centre of Funchal with shops ,cathedral ,gardens, promenade and restaurants within a few minutes walk. The staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The room was comfortable ,although a little basic but it was always cleaned very efficiently. We had breakfast every morning which was a running Buffett always well topped up. In all the hotel was as we expected from the description and the staff were amongst the best we have ever had.

"Moved to a sister Hotel"
We had booked a night at the Hotel Windsor in August 2014 before flying home after a lovely 12 day holiday in Madeira/Porto Santo. Unfortunately when we arrived to check in at the Windsor they informed us that our room was flooded and the Hotel was full, they had arranged for us to stay at their sister hotel just down the road at no extra charge. I should hope not, we were taken by the receptionist to Hotel Do Centro, not happy. The Windsor looked like a plush 4 star hotel, Hotel Do Centro was a cramped 2 star at best. Family room for 4 was a 4th bed crammed into a tiny room, which you could hardly walk past it. Dirty, mould smelling noisy room on a side street. of the town. Breakfast was rolls, cheese and ham and very little else. Thankfully it was only for 1 night. We specifically booked the Windsor as we wanted to splash out on a nice hotel to finish off our holiday. Disappointed and let down.

Very nice hotel in the old city of Funchal
We really enjoyed our three weeks stay in Hotel Windsor, Funchal. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the room was very clean. Although it was quite hot at the time of our visit (August), the lack of air conditioner in the room did not detract much from the pleasantness of our experience. Besides, there was a big and oscillating fan present in the room which we turned on as required (which wasn't very often). The food in the hotel's restaurant was simply fabulous --- much better quality (and not expensive) compared to the other two or three restaurants we tried in the actual city.

Nice hotel in town centre
If you want a clean hotel in the middle of town with a swimming pool on the roof and staff that bend over backwards to assist you then this is the one for you. Wholesome breakfast, evening meal if required. Knowledgeable and charming staff. A fridge in your room that could be used for food if required. My only complaint were the pillows which were lumpy and the mattress protector got hot and sticky.

Good hotel, ideal location for old Funchal
This is one of the few hotels in the old town area of Funchal and is ideally located for the market, cathedral, main square and buses. It has a small swimming pool and little space for lounging in the sun so if that's what you want the hotel zone is a better bet for you. Our room was a good size for a city centre hotel and the facilities were more than adequate for us. It was a good base to get out on walks by using the bus network.

Great reasonably priced hotel in a nice location.
The hotel was great for the price paid. Relatively easy to find even though we missed the stop on the Aerobus, and had to walk back up from the next stop. The staff were very friendly and were helpful with everything we needed. The room was always clean when we arrived back from days out. Breakfast was basic, but you could help yourself to as much as you want... this was what we expected from the description that was given for this hotel. The location of the hotel is excellent, a few mins walk from the seafront, lots of restaurants within a 5 minute walk, and the main bus station and bus stops are just down the road. There's a supermarket right across the road with plenty of essentials available which seems to open quite late. All in all had an excellent stay here and would recommend to anyone wanting basic but clean and friendly accommodation. We spent most of our stay out and about anyway so that's all we needed. Good stuff.

For a 4 star hotel , I think this hotel does live up to it. First of all rooms had no air con and the facilities were very old. Most staff were friendly except for one . The good thing about the hotel is its location in the old town. I would not personally stay there again.

Brilliant location for the old town & the marina. The rooms are comfortable, but plain. There's plenty of hot water, everywhere is very clean, & there's a charming sun terrace & pool on the roof. The staff are super friendly and helpful, specially Elsa on reception. This is not a luxury hotel, but is very pleasant & I would definitely stay here again.

A week in Madeira
The dining room service and limited selection of dishes was fine when we stayed in to eat. The beds were a bit hard for a 4 star hotel and the bathroom tiling was a bit of a mess but there was always lots of hot water available. The room was never serviced until about 5 p.m which was a bit disappointing if we wanted to return early from a trip out. Breakfasts were fine but always a bit crowded. The staff were always very helpful. Visitors should note that they do not take credit or debit cards for money spent in the dining room or bar. Overall I would rate it as 3 stars if it was in the u.k.
