Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Lumban Julu?
The best area to stay in Lumban Julu is the area around Lake Toba, particularly in and around the village of Tongging.

Tongging village, situated directly on the northern shores of Lake Toba, offers stunning panoramic views of the lake and surrounding hills. It's a peaceful area known for its natural beauty, with several guesthouses and small resorts dotted along the lakeside. The Sipiso-piso Waterfall, one of Indonesia's tallest, is a major landmark nearby, just a short drive from the village.

Couples looking for a romantic and scenic getaway will find Tongging particularly appealing. The tranquil environment, breathtaking views, and opportunities for boat trips on the lake or exploring the nearby waterfall make it an ideal setting for a quiet escape.
When is the best time to go to Lumban Julu?
The best time to visit Lumban Julu is during the dry season, which runs from May to September.

During these months, you'll experience less rainfall and plenty of sunshine, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the natural beauty of the region. The weather is generally warm and pleasant, superb for enjoying Lake Toba and its surroundings.

Travellers looking for an adventure-filled holiday will find this period particularly suitable. The drier conditions are superb for hiking around the caldera, visiting local villages, and enjoying watersports on the lake. You'll have the best chance for clear skies and stunning views of the landscape.

For those seeking a more relaxed escape, the dry season also offers comfortable conditions for simply unwinding by the lake, enjoying the tranquil environment, and perhaps visiting some of the cultural sites without the interruption of heavy downpours.
