By the 1750s it was estimated that over 100,000 people could be expected to attend. The original oak blew down in 1820 and the celebration declined, perhaps as a result of licensing laws. The New Fairlop Oak was planted in 1951 and sits in the middle of Fullwell Cross roundabout. The building behind is the Fullwell Cross library.
