Top Likoni Hotel Reviews

PrideInn Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa Mombasa

8/10 Good

"The staff were incredibly friendly, the rooms were spotlessly clean and the pool was a lovely temperature. We did have a couple of ‘niggles’ whereby upon checkin there was an old bed-frame and mattress outside our room which we had to ask to be moved. It also wasn’t made clear that there would be building work going on at the hotel when we booked. This was very close to the pool area which meant there was constant building related noise from around 8am until 6pm. It wasn’t a massive problem for us but it may affect other people’s enjoyment."

Jacaranda Indian Ocean Beach Resort

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel is amazing. The staff were the best, made us feel like we were at home and always went above and beyond with our requests. The food was delicious, specially on Wednesdays and Saturdays which was Swahili Night.Just would like to see more fruit variety at breakfast because you have delicious fruit in Diani. Only thing to point is the room attendant, which by the way was good but just needs to pay more attention to details when cleaning the bathroom…Overall we had an amazing experience and if back to Diani will definitely book again for the best room in the hotel(435)… 🖤❤️💚"

Mzima Beach

8/10 Good

"The hotel market itself as a 5 stars resort, at least that's what it shows on Google map. I wouldn't say it's a 5 star hotel, more like a 4 star that maybe years ago was better maintained. The staff are incredibly friendly and willing to help. Facilities and amenities are not superb, I'd say good enough. We've had only one breakfast and two dinners. They don't have (yet?) a communal area where they serve dinner, so they tend to cater guests in their rooms. We used the swimming pool a couple of times, it was clean enough. We even used outdoor gym once and that was okay. We did not use the spa. We used the airport transfer service for about 50 usd each way, which is a reasonable price. Wyclef the chef was very nice the evening we had our first dinner: basically no one had informed us about the fact that they expect guests to let reception know by a certain time (around 6pm) what they want for dinner. We didn't know that. So we waited until 8pm and we showed up at reception, nobody was there and apparently most of the staff had already gone home. So the chef himself took the order, cooked for us and attended our table. It was very nice of him, but it honestly felt a little weird for us, as we felt like we were doing something not right. So I'd say that reception and staff in general should communicate better both to the guests and among themselves. Location is good, close to the beach but expect 5 minutes walk to reach it if you're in one of the suites on top of the resorts."

Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa, Mombasa

8/10 Good

"Our stay at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa was memorable, thanks in large part to Mr. Peter, the resort driver. He was waiting for us when we arrived at the Mombasa train terminal and immediately made us feel welcome. He was extremely friendly, taught us a little Swahili, and shared interesting facts about Mombasa’s history as we drove past various locations on the way to the resort. If possible, request Mr. Peter as your driver—he is the best! We also loved dining at Thai-Ci and we ate there every day. Our favorites were the tempura shrimp and wok chicken with fried rice. We paid for our shuttle from train station in advance. My husband and I requested an update on the $59 credit at least three times, and each time we were told that the staff were checking on it. At checkout, we were informed that we needed to pay for our transportation back to the train station. I asked whether our credit could be applied, and they agreed. The standard shuttle cost was $40, but we were not offered the remaining $19 balance. In short, the all-inclusive package covers only a one-way pickup from Mombasa Airport; train-station transfers may involve additional charges, so confirm the arrangements and any credits in advance. Bring plenty of Kenyan shillings for tips because the resort does not have an ATM, and there is not one nearby. Also, our room was very hot, and we were unable to adjust the temperature to and there were no fan in our suite."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Likoni?

The best area to stay in Likoni is the beachfront along the Indian Ocean, particularly near the southern end of the Likoni-Ukunda Road.

This area is characterised by its direct access to the sea, offering hotels and resorts with private beach access. It's a more relaxed setting compared to the bustling ferry area, with properties often featuring extensive grounds, swimming pools, and dining options. While not a traditional "town centre," it's where most of the higher-end accommodation is located.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will find this area ideal. The resorts here provide a secluded environment superb for relaxation, with opportunities for beachfront strolls and enjoying ocean views. Many properties offer amenities like spa services and fine dining, suiting a romantic getaway.

For families, the beachfront resorts offer a convenient and enjoyable holiday. Children can play safely on the private beaches or in dedicated kids' pools, while parents can relax knowing most needs are catered for on-site.

When is the best time to go to Likoni?

The best time to go to Likoni is during the dry seasons, which run from December to March and again from July to October.

These periods offer consistently sunny weather, lower humidity, and minimal rainfall, making them ideal for enjoying Likoni's beaches and outdoor activities. The sea conditions are generally calmer, great for swimming, snorkelling, and boat trips. For those looking to fully relax by the coast and soak up the sun, these months provide the most agreeable climate.

Couples often find the December to March period particularly appealing. The weather is consistently warm and bright, great for romantic strolls along the beach or enjoying sundowners with ocean views. While it's a popular time, the wide expanse of the coastline means you can still find quieter spots for a more intimate experience.

Families travelling with children might prefer the July to October dry season. The temperatures are slightly milder than the earlier dry season, which can be more comfortable for younger children.
