Overnight sleep in a four poster bed
We stayed at the Rose & Crown for an overnight stop, on our way back to Bristol from a weeks holiday in Scotland. The hotel has been there since 1455, lots of history, we found it to be a very cosy and quaint. Real wood fires making the snug cosy and warm. Manager and staff were lovely and friendly nothing too much trouble. Food was excellent as was the service. Our room was comfortable the four poster bed was so comfortable I didn’t want to get out of it. Breakfast was good great choice. Will definitely book to stay here again.

We arrived just at closing time after a hectic drive up from Heathrow. Rob and William could not have been more welcoming or accommodating. William cooks an awsome breakfast from local produce. The place itself is not perfect but the people more than make up for its little "quirks" bearing in mind it is a very old building. Thank you Rob and William.

Jill,I am so sorry that you did not enjoy your brief at the hotel in Room 1. As I am sure you realise The Rose and Crown is also the Bainbridge Village Pub. As such the LOcal's Bar is very busy at the weekend particularly on a Bank Holiday.Room 1 is the room over the top of that bar. As such we try not to use that room at the weekend. Unfortunately as the hotel was full we had to and now we have to accept the consequences of your poor review as a result. I am so sorry. If you happen to read this and wish to come back I will happily provide you with a weekend for free. That's the least I can do.

Run down and not very clean
Room in need of refurbishment and not very clean. Bathroom door coming apart and wouldn’t open fully. Breakfast service curt bordering on rude. Had to ask for dirty cup and spoon to be changed. Breakfast consisted of some boxes of cereal and choice of full English or an omelette. Dead bluebottles and dust on windowsill next to my seat off putting. Stayed in other much better and cheaper places found on Hotels.com so this was disappointing

When I read this one word review I immediately tried to ring Nicholas Meakin to find out what was the problem, this is because he never uttered a word of complaint whilst he was here.Unfortunately he never answered the phone and never returned my calls having I presumed listened to my Voicemail. TERRIBLE. I just do not understand it. People come and stay here and enjoy themselves. They eat, they drink, they socialise with fellow guests and the locals. This gentleman did none of this. He checked in, went to his room, stayed there, came down for breakfast and then left. To write a review of TERRIBLE without saying anything to anyone about what he didn't like really is a little unfair. But never mind. He will not ring me so I will never know why he know the reason why he wrote it.

We had a great stay. Friendly staff and a clean basic room. Food was lovely and very generous portion size ! The bar had a limited stock of spirits available but there was enough to choose from. We will go back.

Lovely old inn with lots of character.
The Rose and Crown is a quaint old inn in the heart of the Dales, the staff were very friendly and we had a lovely meal in the atmospheric bar.

THE LOCATION WAS EXCELLENT. THE BEDS WERE COMFORTABLE THE PROPERTY IS POORLY KEPT THE DINING ROOM SATAFF IS SURLY CLEANLINESS OF THE BATHROOM AND ROOMS IS VIRTUALLY NON-EXISTENT THE WERE DEAD BUGS IN A QUILT. THE PROPERTY IS POORLY KEPT AND IN NEED OF MAINTENANCE

The staff were extremely pleasant an helpful, the food was excellent and reasonably priced but unfortunately we stayed on two of the hottest days of the year, the electric fan didn't really cool the room much and the windows didn't open so the nights were uncomfortable with not much sleep. Would stay again if we were in the area.

Lovely group stay
Great large group stay. Staff could not do enough for us! Nice food great measures and fab crowd! Car park superb. Bathrooms could use a bit of updating but it's a very old building so that won't be easy!! Recommended.

In the restaurant the services were sticky. Breakfast cups and glasses and cutlery were dirty. Chips were re-heated, not fresh. Otherwise the food was good.

Sadly the state of the shower was a health hazard. There are numerous effective mould treating products on the market which clean grout without a great deal of effort. Meals were certainly filling but the service disorganized.

We booked 2 nights here to attend a wedding locally, after a confusion with our initial booking (won’t bore you with the details) we checked in, lovely friendly staff. Our room left a lot to be desired! It was filthy! I checked the bedding and to be fair it was clean, so we stayed the first night. We went down for breakfast the next morning, I looked through the window to the kitchen and didn’t like what I saw, my wife who had sat down said her cutlery was stuck to the table! We went elsewhere for breakfast. We sought somewhere else to stay for our second night, we agreed to pay for our first night (including the breakfast we didn’t eat) A lady visited us in our room and said she was disappointed and would look into our concerns and email us! We’ve heard nothing despite contacting them for an update! Such a shame because it’s a beautiful building in a stunning location, it just needs a lot of TLC (and bleach)

Just go with it..
Very friendly staff and a cosy room. Generally the hotel could do with some TLC but it's a building hundreds of years old so if the plumbing makes funny noises and the corridor floor is a bit wonky- go with it. Cannot fault the food (massive portions) and beer. Handy base for the 3 peaks, Aysgarth Falls and Hardraw Falls. If in the area I would stay again.

Staff were very welcoming, friendly and attentive - couldn't do enough for us; service was excellent, food was excellent. Local clientele were open and friendly too. The hotel decor is tired, but then, that is part of its charm. Would gladly stay here again.

Charming but dark with cold showers
Having read the reviews we were not expecting 5* luxury, its a bit rough and ready but it has a lot of charm. However the cold (low flow) shower is a basic you need to get right. Only one other couple at the hotel so its not pressure of numbers using at the same time. Dog wanted to go outside at 10:30pm told to return upstairs and come down via fire escape because downstairs"alarmed". Dog found negotiating steel steps difficult. Very dark down steps and also in yard at the botttom. Not very safe or satisfactory. However our dog was made to feel very welcome.

lovely stay at the rose and crown the staff were very helpful nothing was too much trouble the food was good . enjoyed a drink in the bar especially with the open fire we chose this hotel so we could enjoy the walking in the area
