The best areas to stay in Lemnos are Myrina for a central, convenient base or Platy for a tranquil beachside experience.
Myrina, the capital, is the island's main hub. It's built around a natural harbour and a Venetian castle, offering a mix of historic charm and modern amenities. The town is split into two main sections by a rocky peninsula topped with the castle: Romeikos Gialos on one side and Tourkikos Gialos on the other. Both sides feature waterfront promenades lined with eateries and shops. It's very walkable, with most facilities and attractions within easy reach.
For couples, Myrina offers a great balance. You'll find a wide selection of restaurants for evening meals, lovely spots for a sunset drink, and the ability to explore the castle ruins. It's also well-connected for day trips around the island, making it a convenient base for exploring.
Platy, just a short drive south of Myrina, is an excellent choice for those prioritising a relaxed beach holiday. It's centred around a beautiful, long sandy beach with shallow, clear waters, making it ideal for swimming and sunbathing. The area has a more laid-back feel than Myrina, with a good selection of beachfront tavernas and a few small shops.
Families often find Platy particularly appealing. The gentle slope of the beach and calm waters are superb for children, and there are several family-friendly hotels available.
