#### The air is clean, the water is fresh and those who spend time here welcome the relaxing environment. Travel a short distance and you’ll be back in the city.

Visit the Lakeside Promenade of Zurich’s namesake lake, a principal attraction for those who live and travel here. Seeing the snow-capped mountains lining the expanse of blue-green water should be sufficient reason to visit. There are also numerous social aspects. Consider taking a boat ride to other towns on the lake as well. Discover the popularity of this park, which was the city’s largest continuous public park when it opened in the early 19th century. 

Both ends of the roughly 3.5-mile (5.6-kilometer) park have areas of interest. The China Gardens, a gift from Zurich’s sister city of Kunming, China, promote relaxation in their location at the park’s Zurichhorn. The northern end has Bellevue Square, Zurich’s second-largest shopping area after the Banhofstrasse. You’ll know you’re in a major urban area here because it’s also the hub for city trams. Walk a short distance to the Kunsthaus for modern art exhibitions at this gallery.

Throughout the park are vendors, buskers and concessions as well as areas to dip your toes into Lake Zurich or go for a swim. Alternatively, sit on a park bench and appreciate the beauty of the incredible Swiss scenery.

At the northern end of the lake is Bürkliplatz, with an observation terrace that is excellent for taking photos of the area’s beauty. Stroll off the path to go inland and you’ll reach the city’s Old Town.

This sector has outstanding old buildings incorporating a wide variety of stores, as well as trendy and classic eating establishments. Choose from menus that range from tasty snacks to haute cuisine. Be sure to treat yourself to Switzerland’s renowned fondue, flavorful and aromatic. Many of these establishments have lake views that further enhance the experience.

Perhaps the only thing better than a view of the lake is to be on the lake itself. Join a boat tour operating from landing points near the Lakeside Promenade.

Our family of five stayed at Beatenberg Hotel & Spa for five nights, and overall it was an excellent experience that we would happily repeat. Originally, we had booked a Family Suite via Expedia that could accommodate all five of us. As a precaution, we contacted the hotel directly prior to arrival, only to be informed that the reservation details from Expedia had not been properly transmitted and that the Family Suite could not be secured. Since the stay had already been prepaid, this was obviously concerning. What truly impressed us was how the hotel handled the situation. After discussing the matter directly with the hotel team, they kindly offered an alternative solution: two Junior Suites, secured side by side, entirely as a gesture of goodwill. This proactive and considerate response immediately reassured us. Both Junior Suites featured private balconies with stunning panoramic views, and the rooms were spacious, comfortable, and immaculately maintained. While we were not all able to stay in a single room as originally planned, the quality of the accommodation and the thoughtful arrangement more than compensated for it. The children loved having space, and the views alone made each morning memorable. Thanks to the hotel’s professionalism and genuine hospitality, we enjoyed a thoroughly relaxing and satisfying five-night stay. For us, this experience demonstrated what excellent service truly means. We would very much like to return with our family again in future.
