"Surf’s Up" at this oceanfront first floor condo that was completely renovated in 2019, with modern new flooring, paint, fixtures and furniture throughout. The bright, airy living room of this corner unit features a view you won’t find elsewhere - "Surf's Up" has wide sliding glass doors lead out to the expansive oceanfront deck, and a large picture window provides more unobstructed views of the ocean and beach toward the Kure Beach Pier. When you’re not watching (or riding!) the waves, take in a movie on the flat screen smart TV from the comfy rocker recliner or Queen size sleeper sofa. The main bedroom has a Queen bed (new in 2021), as well as a flat-screen TV. The on suite bath features a spacious ceramic tile walk-in shower. The second bedroom has two Twin beds (also with new mattresses purchased in 2019) and is adjacent to the second bathroom, which has a combination shower and tub. Plan family meals in the fully stocked kitchen, upgraded with white Shaker cabinets, a subway-tile backsplash and sparkling quartz countertops. All new stainless steel appliances include a whisper-quiet dishwasher. The dining table comfortably seats six, with additional seating for four at the kitchen bar. Ideally situated, this unit is adjacent to an outdoor pool and covered picnic area, includes parking for two cars below and offers easy access to a beach walkway between buildings. Ocean Dunes is an ideal year-round vacation spot for families! Located at the southern end of Pleasure Island, in Kure Beach next to Historic Fort Fisher, Ocean Dunes occupies one mile of beachfront with several private beach walkways. Included with your reservation is access to all the amenities Ocean Dunes offers, as well as the Recreation Center. Amenities include three outdoor pools, a children's playground, tennis courts, a basketball court and cornhole. The Recreation Center has an indoor pool, whirlpool/spa, gym, saunas, and showers. The condo is not in good shape. Walls need washed and painted, furniture was dirty, mold in the showers and on vanity in the master bathroom. Garbage can needs replaced and vent covers need cleaned/replaced. The property management company did send someone to clean after I called about the condition of the property. It is the end of season is not an excuse for a property not being clean. The rental rate is the same and I expect a clean place to stay with my family. The condo was not cleaned well however. We have an 11 month old and within the first 10 minutes of being there her knees and tops of her feet were black from crawling on the floor. There was a load of laundry in the dryer. We had to push the twin beds together for our toddler to not roll out and when we moved the nightstand there were 15-20 wadded up tissues all behind it and the headboards. Other than the cleanliness it was a great size for our small family and you can’t beat the view!! ##### Megan G. The property was clean. The ocean-front view was phenomenal. Beach access was easy. Location was convenient (just a few short minutes to Fort Fisher and the Aquarium). There's dried food all inside of it. The bed in the main bedroom was misrepresented. It is NOT a queen bed. The bed frame is an adjustable frame that can accommodate either a full size or queen size mattress depending on the slot used. The slot and mattress used is full size. The bed is also uncomfortable. The shower door in the main bedroom was covered in soap scum. The refrigerator was not clean. There was some sort of sticky substance that had to be wiped out. Pests are a huge issue. There were multiple spiders seen during our stay and one roach. The checkout instructions are not specific enough. If you’re going to threaten to charge people a $100 fee for not removing the trash you should probably give more specific instructions. Simply saying to take it out on Monday is not enough. You should give us a time. We had to literally chase down the trash man as we were late apparently late taking it to the street at 7:30am. Checkout isn’t until 10am. Upon arrival I was happy to see the recent renovations but the cleaning was done very poorly. We loved the location but unfortunately this would be our very last resort if we plan on returning to the area in the future. ##### Anne R. Location close to Fort Fisher and undeveloped portion of beach...making for nice long walks. Not a lot of people this time of year. Imagine in the height of the season the narrow beach may get a bit cozy. This unit is right next to pool - so convenient. And beach access a very short walk to end of building. The unit was bright and clean...loved the side bay window where we could sit and have coffee but enjoy the view on a rainy day, (rain comes thru decking boards above). Previous review about utensils is spot on - definitely need to update....knives dull (sharpener didn’t help), cutting board wore out, and no rubber spatula. But these were minor inconveniences for us and we enjoyed the space. ##### LIZ L. My dad enjoyed sitting in the recliner and watching the pelicans fly over. The home fit our needs with the well appointed kitchen, walk-in shower, fresh linens, only one flight of stairs to enter, and lots of peace and quiet. Check-in/Check-out procedures were a breeze. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the greatest, but we made the best of it by exploring the nearby aquarium and taking the Fort Fisher Ferry to Southport and back. I would definitely recommend this place but have one suggestion: some sort of curtain over the blinds in the twin bedroom. The lights from the outside stairs are very bright. ##### Pamela H. The realty company, however, was awful. I did not know where or how to get check in info. I emailed and called with no response. I finally was told after 4:15 pm that i was to checknin at a completely different location to the one posted on 8:15 am email. No further instructions until 12 minutes before check in time, in an email sent at 3:42 pm, that i didnt get bec i was on thd road traveling!! I called and emailed voicing my concerns, never received a response. Loved the unit, but could never rent again through a realty company, like bryant realty in wilmington!!!
