Maritime Resort has a great reputation amongst locals, but by Western standards it's definitely mediocre. The sheets were stained, the maid forgot to leave towels often, and nothing looks as it's advertised (a complaint shared by a fellow traveller from England). When we first arrived, some of the toiletries weren't stocked and the maid often took the towels, but didn't leave new towels.
The pool was okay, but poolside service is hard to get. There isn't always someone working outside. You need a car/shuttle to get everywhere. The resort isn't the most picturesque with its concrete walls and the construction next door. There's also an abandoned gas station across the street and graffiti on some stores next to the resort.
The hotel's breakfast is filled with nothing but heavy, starchy foods that you'd eat for lunch (rice, pasta, etc), which is a bit much at 9AM. The staff speaks some English, but expect errors.
The location isn't the most convenient and there are better resorts in Ao Nang (some of which may have even cost the same or less). Ao Nang is also a better location for eating, shopping, tailors, and going to some of the islands.
Frankly, this resort was a complete disappointment. I would never stay here again for a romantic or solo holiday. There are nicer resorts closer to the beach in Ao Nang.
